87 TII cuts out at 3700rpms

cars runs great until 3700. replaced turbo and took it too a shop and they said it has a leak in the oil pan and the oil gasket on the turbo but the turbo still spools up fine and i change the stock DP and also ran it with just the dp on there so its nothing to do with exhuast. so i am stuck on what do check or do next? i can get a new motor for 600 and prolly could part my engine for more than that but my engine has 95compresion in both rotors so what to do next???? please help thanks shawn

I'll help you.

Just so you don't get piles and piles of flames for it, I'll help you out.

Do a search for "3700 RPM Hesitation" it is a very common problem with our cars and there is lots of information around here about it.

Do you just have a slight hesitation at 3700 rpms or you can't even get above 3700rpms?

Seems to me you have a problem with your secondary injectors......

Fuel, my brother your engine is hesitase cuz needs more gas , probably is running fine on low rmp cux ur ijectors are good...

You have a hesitation problem and you're thinking of getting another motor?
The problem is just a simple secondary injectors either clogged or bad, bad grounding, if you changed vacuum line to the boost sensor, did you replace the pill?, At around 3700 is where the secondaries come on. Try checking the easy ones first. Check for error codes, check value readings at the ECU, adjust TPS. If you changed anything before such as soldering or splicing, re-check them. I have been chasing a secondary problem for a long time and it came down to ***one*** bad ground wire at the ECU. It caused all sorts of strange problems. Always check the easy ones first. Sometimes I read some peoples post about a bad idle and immediately thinks it's a blown motor:confused:
Later they find a popped off vacuum line. **shees**
If you have a mutli meter, check the voltage for the secondary injectors at the ECU. It should all be about 12V. Clogged injectors will cause all sorts of havoc above 3800 or under load. Using injector cleaner won't do jack at this point .
Hope you solve this.

Sounds like you just need to ground your ECU better.

sakiburner 07-04-03 01:21 AM

same thing happened to me and it turned out to be unplunged secondary injectors

elv8rx7 07-04-03 08:31 AM

I think you need to do a check of you relief solenoid valve it's supposed to stop sucking air above 3780 rpm. Check you FSM firsts to verify but i'm pretty sure you will find your problem.

HAILERS 07-04-03 09:22 AM

Just how bad does it run above 3800???? Piss ant poor, or does it straighten itself out after hesitating, then run good??

Secondary injectors do not come on line until 3500 rpm, and then only if a load is put on the engine. Sooooo....if the car runs good by judicious application of a light throttle to say 6000 rpm with no hesitation, then its probably a secondary injector problem or secondary wiring problem as in bad connections and or bad grounds for the ECU.

luv that 3700 hesitation i think everyone in this forum has posted something like this my problem was the grounds!! i dont know if u have the 5th and 6th port in ur model but the back pressure might be messed up too!! do a search theres lots of info on this stuff!! goodluck!!

yearrgh 07-04-03 11:37 PM

Does it only hesitate when the throttle is open more than half way? Do you know what fuel cut feels like so you can rule that out?

Terrh 07-05-03 12:37 AM

my car would not rev AT ALL above 4k RPM... problem? one of my intercooler hoses had popped off, above that RPM there was enough pressure to blow past it... below it it ran just fine.

fastrotaries 07-05-03 01:19 AM

damn man do a search. mine needed better grounds. especially from the exhaust since the O2 sensor grounds itself to this. A nice 2" strap should do it, and check the stock ground and make sure it's even on.
