87 Rx7 - Engine sputtered than quit? Help!!!

Any Rx7 guru's please help!!! Yesterday, as I was getting on the freeway I noticed when I pushed on the accelerator the car hesitated then slowly got up to speed. Then a mile or so later it began to sputter and just quite. It will crank but not start. The volt reader reads fine. I think it might be the fuel pump or filter. Or am I totally off on my assumption?

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I added a little (half a quart) 10-30W oil when the level got a little low a few days before I broke down. I know it is supposed to take 20-50W and that's what is in there now. It has only been 1500 mile since my last oil change. would this maybe foul up the engine. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Paxton

First thing is first :)
compression check ..
if you own an RX7 you should own a compression guage :)

Oil type has nothing to do with it. It's going to be fuel, spark or compression. After you crank the engine, remove the plugs from both rotors and see if they are wet. If so, then see if the plugs are sparking. If they are then check for compression.
Good luck.

When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?

Take off the intake pipe and squirt a little gas into the intercooler. Does the engine start then stall? If so, then you're looking at a fuel problem.

I just rebuilt my motor, and couldn't get it to start. Tried everything, but noticed that when I turned the key on there wasn't a sound coming from the fuel pump.
Any way I had the same symptoms as you though, but it all started with a blown apexseal, and most likely a dead fuel pump.
