87 base engine into 88 gxl body

Ok, I have an 87 base w/ 5spd. I'm looking at buying an 88 gxl body w/ everything except the engine. I want to swap my current engine into it but the only concern I have is about power steering. My current RX was not equipped with the option so therefore the engine was not outfitted w/ the pump. If the power steering rack in the GXL I'm purchasing remains in the car then I don't know if I will have a problem with the swap. Any insight into this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you won't be bad off to just continue without power steering.

all your going to have to do is swap the manual rack from your base model rex and put into GXL. I think manual steering is better any way.

if you are going to do a swap buy a t2 driveline and go boosted. Don't do a NA to NA swap. Not worth the time

I say swap the manual rack from your car (along with tie rod ends) into the new car. Unless you're a serious wuss :) power steering isn't necessary. Manual rack is much nicer IMHO, and less to go wrong.

My only suggestion, make sure you get the injectors right. The high impedance to low impedance switch happened in mid '87.;)
