not to sound like a dick, but not to many people just happen to have a grand lying around to buy a standalone with. Shit if i did that would be the first thing i bought.

You keep saying you just keep the upper half, by this I'm assuming you're talking about the UIM, plenum, and TB. This is incorrect, you retain the ENTIRE S5 intake. I'm not saying anyone was wrong but no one was entirely right.
What I mean by the upper half, is anything not associated with the keg. I should have been more specific.

everytime you say keg I think beer...what's a keg? I'm sure I know what it is I just can't quite associate it...

ERAUMAZDA Sep 19, 2003 12:57 AM

So much easier to swap ecu IMO....

ERAUMAZDA Sep 19, 2003 12:58 AM

Maybe I am just stubburn

dude...you can't just sawp the ECU...in order to do that you'd have to swap the entire dash, then half the wiring going to the rear of the car. "New Flash: S4/S5 ECU's NOT INTERCHANGABLE!"

J-Rat Sep 19, 2003 02:52 AM

The "keg" is just a term I use for the motor itself without attachments. If you look at it, it kinda looks like a keg with an oil pan attached... Maybe I just associate too many things with alcohol...:)

Anyways, I was going to do a big writeup for Icemark's FAQ section on S4/S5 interchangeability, being as I am a veteran of that swap. But I havent really gotten around to it. Between work and getting my car ready for Sevenstock, I just dont have time.

I WISH the ecus were interchangeable, that would be one less thing to worry about.

It's important to look at the big piture, and sort out priorities. How much extra $$$ will the swap cost? How long will the car potentialy be down for? It wont take long dicking around with the stock ECU and harness bullshit to work up a pretty good price tag. Maybe not as much as a standalone but how long will the car be down for? More than a few Microtech owners threw theirs in, in a day and had it running. Some of us have a grand lying around, some of us don't. I'm willing to take the bus for a bit, and live like a hermit saving money so I can have my car run the best possible way. Others are not willing to make this kind of sacrifice.

Thanks for all the info.

The reason that I thought that the Block/keg would fit fine is because I know that there's been a few here that have changed over from the regular intake to the VDI on an s4. So I figured, why the fuck not a S4 into the S5?

Either way, you guys should see her.

The body is clean, no dents or rust. The interior is near perfect no ripped seats or broken dash parts. So I'm so fucking psyched!

Anyway, I'm trying to find a pagte that talked about the vdi conversion, but can't seem to locate it.

As for the concept of searching the forum. Well, I usually do a lot of search when that fits my mood and style.

Other than that, Fuck search. This is a forum and I like to discuss things sometimes.

Thanks again.

Alright, new Idea.

I'm just going to rebuild the motor. Fuck the swap.
