86 N/A Question
Ok I own an FD and I am thinking about getting an 86 FC with a blown motor and putting in a new motor. This is just going to be a daily driver basic car. Not for racing or anything. But I still want something with some good pickup as I hate slow cars.
What do you reccommend I do. Get reman N/A Get reman T2 Get JDM Twin Turbo Any comments will help. |
How much are you willing to spend?
If you want a Turbo, buy a blown T2 because converting an NA would be much more time consuming and expensive. "Slow" is a relative term. What do you consider slow? Is there a HP figure you are shooting for? |
N/A isn't to bad you could run mid to high 15's with a few bolt ons and still remain reliable and very streetable
|
ok 15s is damn slow so im lookin for low 14s
price not really a big deal but my fd is my fast car this will just be a daily driver. |
Well there is no hp goal. what kind of 1/4 time are u guys getting with full exhaust and intake on a N/A.
Again it doesnt have to be fast but 15s I could get a civic and do that. |
...but you'd be driving a Civic.

I found this in another post.
Originally posted by jacobcartmill i ran a 9.8@72 in my 91 NA but i had intake and exhaust and some weight reduction. But then again bridgeport will eat gas like crazy and I dont want that either for a daily driver. Decisions Decisions Come ON Help ME Out Here!! Give ME your FEEDBACK |
dude if its your daily driver, why all the speculation you should get it because A. its a rotary, B. its an sexy FC, c. its an N/a (i have one :O ) and d. you have a fd that will blow the doors off most all of us and other manufacturers so just get it because you love the spirit of the RX and dont worry bout the details, you claim to be speed demon, and we belive you, you have an fd, now get an FC and watch the world at a bit slower pace :) cheers

Low 14's is possible with an N/A but you wouldn't want it as a dailydriver i don't think, its gonna have to have some sort of port probably possible with a street port but most likely you'll run into alot of problems trying to make an N/A that fast and streetable daily driver, if 15's aren't good enough go turbo II you can get low 14's really easy with that, but personally i think a high 15 in an rx7 is more fun than one in a civic, besides civics can't handle like a 7

For the record...what Civic with full exhaust and intake runs low 15's? The only one that does is the newer Si...you're safe with the N/A it's still damn quick ;). If you want a daily driver though I wouldn't really bother porting the motor (nothing wrong with it, but you said you want a "regular" car...well as regular as an RX-7 can be). Most I would do is rebuild it (so you know when it was last serviced and guarantee that it's fully healthy) add an intake (not POD, just make a CAI ORRR...get up with Santiago :D...free plugs are good eh? ;)), either a downpipe/presilencer combo OR a header but not both, a lighter flywheel, and a bit of suspension work. That would give you a very reliable and quick ass N/A FC...you'd be Civic free and beat their asses (and quite a few other cars out there).
Unless you go turbo though you'll never get the same push (TQ...although you still get a nice push) from the car though, but that's just the feeling...the N/A driven well is so much more rewarding, no matter what ANYONE says :D. |

Take a look at my $1000 hooptie. With no real engine mods short of a crappy intake and headers I bet I would be well into the 15's simply because the car only weighs 2400lbs now. FWIW Stock FC #'s: 0-60 in 7.8secs, the 1/4 mile in 16.2s @ 86.4mph And yes I can and do daily drive the car. A motor with a little bit of porting would obviously do better. And cut out the Honda crap. My hooptie would run circles around a Honda. Regards, Crispy |
I like your ride CrispyRX7! Your website is neat too! :shot2:

I will buy a 240sx and drop rotary in it =)

If you want a quick daily driver, I wouldn't reccomend a n/a FC. They are superbly balanced, and have a classic coupe look to them, but they aren't drag cars. A n/a with full exhuast, some sticky tires, and decent driving should net you somewhere in the mid - upper 14's.
