86 N/A driveline question

Hey guys, just a quick question regarding a driveshaft for an 86 non turbo.

Will an 89 n/a driveshaft fit as a replacement for me?

I appreciate the quick answers

So i would assume that means no, it won't fit.

I guess what I am saying is, that if I dont know the answer FOR SURE, but I know that there are different part #s in Mazdatrix, then I usually assume that they wont work. HOWEVER, I have no first hand knowledge.

i would just go to a powertrain shop that manufactures driveshafts and take both flanges or the whole old driveshaft up there usually takes no more than 2 days here to do that (thats what i did paid $250 for an aluminum one no problems and replaceable u-joints)

I know that the driveshaft on my 86 and the driveshaft on my 88 convertible were completely different looking, but worked the same on the 86. The 86 driveshaft was huge and bulky, the 88 was tiny and ended up fitting just fine.

I would assume the difference between the two part numbers might just be the width of the driveshaft, but I believe the end bolting to your diff and the tranny side will be the same. Don't quote me on that. Could just be a bad assumption.

So yet again, I don't know for sure. This could propose a problem...

Who could know for sure?

just look in the FSMs (links can be found in the FAQ for FC sticky thread found at the top of this, the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section) and compare the lengths
