86 GXL will not start
 

Hey guys. I have a big problem. I bought this car and it ran. Didn't run it for 5 days or so. Came back and it wouldn't start. I tried the simple unflooding procedures and nothing happened. Then I tried the complex way with MMO. I've replaced the Lead and trailing coils, the plugs, wires, airbypass valve, MAF, coolant temp sensor (located under alternator). What more can I do. I'm pretty sure it has spark. I'm still confused about the fuel.....maybe thats what it is? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, a buzzer comes on after trying to start it. Stays on until I turn off the car!

fuel pump maybe? theres a chance no fuels getting to it... so its cranks over like its flooded but wont start?

How many miles are on it?

If you removed the plugs and poured oil in the holes, did it fire at all?

A timing light attached close to the spark plugs will tell if you have spark (or you could just remove a plug and set it somewhere while cranking).

Try starting it on carb cleaner or starting fluid.

There is a small chance that the ECU is not seeing air flow.

You need to check the coolant and oil, the buzzer is likely one of them.

Milage, I don't actually know. Its under 200,000 miles for sure. I'll check the exact amount when I get home.

I did remove the plugs and put ATF in, no fire at all.

I'm a little confused about the whole remove the spark plug thing. Do I just unscrew one of the plugs. Leave it attached to the spark plug wires and see if it is "sparking".

I haven't tried starting it with carb cleaner or starting fluid. Well maybe I have tried it on starting fluid. I put about 1-2oz in each of the two rotars.

I thought of the ECU not reading it. BUt I really have no clue. Nor do I have a clue how to check it!!!


So the to do list for tomorrow is as follows!

1. Check milage
2. Check for spark
3. Check if fuel pump is getting power
4. Check if fuel pump primes
5. If all these are 100% go, then pour heavy weight oil into the rotars and pray it starts.

Also, One more question. I checked the oil and it seems as though there is a lot of gas in it. Would that effect the start up procedures of the engine?

Sooooo...I've decided I am a damn moron! I've answered my questions.

1. ~148,000 miles
2. NO SPARK
3. Fuel pump getting power
4. Fuel pump does not prime, but I'm 100% that it works.
5. Didn't do because I have absolutly no spark.


So now it becomes an issue of why don't I have spark. I swapped out the leading and trailing coils with known operational ones. I do know that the plug wires that I replaced had a huge gash in them revealing the internals, which leads me to believe that the system has shorted out some where. Where do I start? I will search, any tips will help.

I have a spark problem. Can someone suggest anything? I am going to recheck the CAS tomorrow. Anything else I should do?

Try Looking under the brake master cylinder and you will see three sheilded connectors. One of those is coming form the CAS and has one like it there. Carefully disconnect and clean out with a good spray electronics cleaner. Over the years brake fluid finds its way into this CAS (CRank angle sensor) connector causing a no start ....then some times it will staart.....I fought this for three years till I figured it out....check out my posts on "Intermittent No Start"

check to see it you plugged the fuses back in if you pulled them to unflood because that will cause no spark. I just had that problem where I unplugged them to check spark because I thought it would spray fuel. They have to be plugged in.
