OK well it finally happened to me... I magillatized the drivers side door handle while holding the handle up to keep it locked while closing. I thought I felt something give then it wouldnt open.

Anybody got a "Gold" Driver's side exterior door handle? If so, How much?

http://www.mazdatrix.com/doorwin2.htm Not sure if they have the gold color, but that's where I'm getting mine.

icarus179 06-25-06 06:19 PM

I'm looking for a used one. Thats full price. I just thought I could get a used one for cheaper.

Door handle

Im just getting tired of opening the passenger side to reach across to unlock the other side. I would take any color of door handle and try to paint it gold to match the rest of the car.

the local scrap yard near my house just charged me 5 bucks for a door handle, nothing wrong with besides that its faded a bit.

welcome to the club

How hard is it to replace? I'm getting tired of climbing across the passenger side as well.

Can it just be fixed?

HOZZMANRX7 07-27-06 02:22 PM

Can't be fixed

Can only be replaced. Easy to replace. Just pull the interior door panel and remove two 10MM bolts. To give wiggle room, remove the three Philips screws that hold the door latching mechanism in place.

Roll down the window for easiest access to the forward 10mm bolt and also pop off the clip to the little lock arm (to the door latch), pop the rubber cover and roll up the window for easier access to the rear 10MM bolt. First pull up on the door unit to clear the bottom and pull out, then move the handle forward until the main arm (to the door latch) clears and expose the clip for the main arm. With a screw driver pop off the arm for the clip for the main arm and twist out of the holder. Unplug the wiring harness (1 or two depending if you have factory alarm or not) and snake the wiring around the rear window channel. And out she comes.

Follow these instructions in reverse to re-install. Actually pretty easy. Takes me about 30 minutes round trip, although I've had a bit of practice.

It's not very hard to replace. It took me about an hour my first time.

No, it really can't be fixed. The metal Mazda used is crap.

Or 0 if you're like me and don't have an alarm or power windows.

Longhaul 07-27-06 02:39 PM

Got power windows, got alarm. I'm tempted to just take the piece from the passenger side door.

I'll never have to lock it again and I can tell passengers that I need to unlock it!

I know, cheap...

just shave the door handles off with a door popper kit its not that hard to do by yourself you can even leave the outside handles on so you dont have to weld it up
FBIRIDES.COM should have them

FirstRotaryExp 07-27-06 04:21 PM

Just to let a you guys know....I bought a NEW door handle from my local mazda dealership (Still in original packaging) for $106.xx after taxes. I ended up with a Claret Mica handle for the drivers side of my primer NA, but ust somethign to consider if you have a dealer nearby.

Longhaul 07-27-06 04:26 PM

That's about the same price as mazdatrix.

I am tempted to get the shave door handle kit mentioned above. It's $105 and comes with two remotes. I'm not sure how difficult the install would be. I don't want to lose the ability to open with the handle on the inside and I don't want to give up a week end installing.

mort2002 07-27-06 04:27 PM

you know i actually may have a gold handle at my house. im at work right now i guess i can check when i get home. i parted out a goldish one with red interior.

spot_skater 07-27-06 07:36 PM

Might just be the latch that connects to the handle... unless you mean you broke the handle off.

I think that's what he meant. It's made out of pot metal or something and pretty much can't be fixed.
