626 lip to S4 RX-7 lip writeup (56k noo)

Sorry if I piss off everyone else with the 626 lip, but today I put the 626 lip on my car, and it was easy as hell. Other people have said it seems like it was meant for the car, and theyre right. I had to cut two places and just screw 4 bolts through the plastic, other than that it fit great.
Heres how:
Step 1: Go to your salvage yard and find an older 626, late 80's/ early 90's, mine came off of a 91. I got it for $15.75.

Step 2: Grab your tools, I needed a 1/4 drive screwdriver, a 1/4 drive 8mm socket, a 1/4 dirve 10 mmm socket, 10mm wrench, and a carpet knife. Now, look at your old lip then jack the car up. After that, set the new one under and do a mockup for fun.

https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...hmentid=118746

Step 3: Unbolt the old stock lip, and save the bolts! After that, center the new lip, and start mounting one side, you will need to cut once in each corner to clear a bolt(youll see in the following side pics). After that, line up the holes, with the middle of the 2 piece lip in the center, start bolting it on to your liking. then once you've got both side up, attach the middle together. I used a large washer and a spare 10mm bolt and 10mm nut. I pushed it through the holes in the lip and then set the wahser on top of the bumper hole and bolted it together.
Then you're done.

Optional step 4: Armorall the bitch and take the car out for a test drive!
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...hmentid=118750
Hope thats easy enough!
It took me about 30-45 minutes to put it on.

And yes, the car is 3 different colors, and yes, it's getting painted VERY soon.

how flexible is it? something is pushing my bumper forward so the front bumper lines arent the same.

Molotovman 06-23-05 06:27 PM

It's plastic, but it's pretty flexible. My bumper and fender dont line up very well on the driverside of my car, it' bent aroudn it okay. I'd try it, for $15 I don't knwo what looks better.

Digi7ech 06-23-05 06:29 PM

Haha, yours is better, but mine has 2 RX-7's. We parked the cars like that on the hill for the hell of it, and then We photchopped it today, when we were bored.

I like your license plate in the last pic :) good idea though, cool visual mod. You should also paint your car one color, lol.

haha,
and I said, the cars getting painted soon:)

Silverfc88 06-23-05 09:19 PM

Could you get a better pic of the front in the light please..

From what I can see it looks good.

Icemark 06-23-05 09:25 PM

yeah, the crappy final pictures make it impossible to see what it really looks like.

Perhaps a better picture in daylight, and one showing how it ends at the fender/wheel opening.

Jager 06-23-05 11:06 PM

Looks good.

JasonL 06-24-05 03:35 AM

Pics don't really show how the lip comes short of meeting the fenders wheelwells.

If you cut the sides of the lip and make it gradually thin out I figured it might look good.

caliwhitecomet 06-24-05 03:51 AM

very nice. now if only...

7HVEN 06-24-05 05:56 AM

Hi, the front lip I used was off a Honda CRX (was a shame to mix brands, but couldn't find suitable 626 one). It angles out from the bumper at about 45degrees so hopefully scoops up a little air.

Same method to install thou'.

Well done

I now bring this thread back from the dead!

Um, do these have any tangible effect on the aerodynamics of the car or handle front lift any?

Or would it have to be much bigger...

Heres some old, but new pics. All dont have that great of lighting. I saw that someone posted about the 626 lip, so im bumping it back up.

And yes, the one with the busted front end is the most recent:(.

For $15, that can't be beat IMO. If you want to man up though, the S13 lip is the way to go...

looks as bad as the CRX one... only about an inch short, instead of two inches.

No sense putting on some other car's lip if it doesn't fit. Just makes you look like you are too cheap to do it right.

That's why I said you gotta man up! ;)

But yeah, you can find 'em for cheaper, you just gotta approach random S13 owners (like, older women/men) and just say;

"Hey, I'll give you $50 right now if I can just take that little piece off your car... FIFTY BUCKS!!!"

Sindregutt 03-05-06 03:29 PM

I have heard that the Renault Laguna lip will fit perfect, anyone tried it? The "bad" thing about all those lips are that they arent made for painting :S

88rxn/a 03-05-06 04:32 PM

may be dumb question but...S13?? what car is that exactly??

Xbladr 03-05-06 04:34 PM

240sx

88rxn/a 03-05-06 04:37 PM

thanks!!! time to go hunting in the yards !! although its prob. not gonna happen..finding a 240 SX...in a yard around here..

RockyZ 08-13-08 11:35 PM

I put my lip on today, it looks pretty awesome. I can't get the center to line up perfectly but no big deal.

For those saying that the lip is short of the bumper by about an inch. The stock S4 lip is also short of the bumper about a inch.

Thanks for the writeup!

And here journalist said Renalut copied the 626 to design the laguna, or the inverse...
I'll have a look!

Slow Rotor 08-14-08 03:47 AM

Pfft if you want it to look good, just buy a decent kit. Mine is an RMagic one. Fits like a glove

I put a 626 lip on my car. I have about an inch gap in the middle where the 2 pieces meet due to my front being fooked for some reason. I fixed the problem with some black silicone mixed with Black paint(to make it blacker) and then I painted the whole thing black. It looks great. Dont have a pic of it though.

arsinal4496 08-14-08 09:49 PM

heres my 240 lip. i like it the best out of the lips that arent made to fit a fc.

The lip looks great man, i was wondering if it wraps all the way around to the fender. Its $213 for a 91 626 lip brand new so i wanna make sure.

diabolical1 01-07-21 07:33 PM

welcome to the board. :)

check the photos in posts #28 and 41. it appears to stop a little short of the wheelwell.
