6 port?

I just got an 87 GXL and would like to know what a 6 port is. Also, what is all this talk about rice?

Non-turbo 2nd gen Rx-7s are 6-port engines, while the turbos are 4 port. Basically there are two auxiallary ports that open at ~3800rpm to provide more airflow, and are commonly referred to as "6th ports"

i read somewhere that having the 6th port is comparable to running like 2-3lbs boost

Compared to those ports being closed above 3800 rpms that is probably right. If they stayed closed you would have no power over 4000 rpms.

Some people say rice because
Rotary
Internal
Combustion
Engine

On a dyno chart, it looks like a 10 shot of nitrous.
In 89 Mazda improved the intake further with the Variable Dynamic Intake.
The VDI shortens the length of the intake runners at >5400RPM. It feels like another 15 shot.
I know that's not much - but it's free!
