6 port?
I just got an 87 GXL and would like to know what a 6 port is. Also, what is all this talk about rice?

Non-turbo 2nd gen Rx-7s are 6-port engines, while the turbos are 4 port. Basically there are two auxiallary ports that open at ~3800rpm to provide more airflow, and are commonly referred to as "6th ports"

thanks for the info

i read somewhere that having the 6th port is comparable to running like 2-3lbs boost

On a dyno chart, it looks like a 10 shot of nitrous.
In 89 Mazda improved the intake further with the Variable Dynamic Intake. The VDI shortens the length of the intake runners at >5400RPM. It feels like another 15 shot. I know that's not much - but it's free! |
