5th & 6th Port problems..

I put my RB header on and the resonator. Shouldnt the ports open or is there an other mod I need to do? the last thread about it i had some people were saying the resonator builds the backpressure to open them. I need some advice

datz 05-26-10 03:11 PM

your profile says 87 rx7. on s4's and s5's the aux. ports open different. s4's they open with exhaust backpressure. (with the header there might not be enoughbackpressure to open them.) on s5's the airpump supplys air to a valve on the rats nest, that opens acordinglly, and feeds that air to the ports.
thers ways to actuate the ports on s4's via airpump or small electric compressor(search)

if thats so what is the tube that connects to the cat on my s5?

rotarygod 05-26-10 04:34 PM

If you are using the Racing Beat header and their presilencer that has the split air pipe on it, it is still actuated by exhaust pressure and should still function normally. If you are trying to just rev it at idle to visually see if they are opening, it won't work. You need to be under load. Does your car drive fine or have you lost all of your top end?

Thats call spit air pipe. It supplies air to your cat under certain condition so ur cat wont die in 2 blocks. It. Has nothing to do with ur 5th 6th portport

It seems to pull the in topend. but before with stock exhaust on I could rev it from under the hood and see them open and close. I have the resonator from CorkSport that doesnt have the split air pipe.

RotaryRocket88 05-26-10 09:05 PM

If you have no split air pipe hooked up, how are you feeding exhaust pressure to the actuators?

then you have no choice but to weld the split air pipe to the resonator. have an exhaust shop do it, it shouldnt cost you much.

Extend the split air pipe into the cabin using rubber tubing. Blow into it as hard as you can when you need the ports to open... Or have a passenger do it for you...

oh he has a S4 ? ... so yeah he needs it ...

haha oh man i can picture someone actually doing that.

PistonLessRX 05-27-10 11:48 AM

Yes it is s4. So I have to keep the air pump then right? The split air pipe blows air or sucks air in?

not true. in my s4 car, they would open right up when you revved it to red line at a stop. i dont speak for an s5 tough.

PistonLessRX 05-27-10 01:18 PM

http://www.corksport.com/corksport-p...ipe-stock.html

Thats the resonator I got since a few people on here had said that would work and open the ports on my s4. Im going to have the flange welded to the resonator and ill be set.

rx-7 obsessed 05-27-10 01:20 PM

the air pump can be removed on the s4

PistonLessRX 05-27-10 01:27 PM

If the airpump is removed how do I get the ports to open? I searched it not to long ago and didnt find much..

Yeah "redline"! They don't just open at 3800 as they do when under load while driving. Their opening point depends on load and rpm.

jpd3253 05-27-10 02:07 PM

Since your Corksport does not have a pick up to supply pressure to the split air pipe and your air pump is still installed. Use the air pump to open the aux ports. This is one write up.

Here's another.

PistonLessRX 05-27-10 05:19 PM

This is what I was going to do. There is about a 3 inch pipe between my collector and resonator. i was going to tap into that to put the split air pipe to. Would that be too much air or would that be ok? I could also go all the way to the backside of the resonator but I was trying to use the stock split air pipe without to many mods to it.

RotaryRocket88 05-27-10 08:01 PM

Read this: http://mazdarx7.iougs.com/intakeair.shtml. You would be duplicating how it works on an S5 NA.

If you want to use the air pump to activate the actuators, you don't need the split air pipe at all. You can add a nipple on the air pump outlet (or even the ACV if you put it where the S5 NA does), run a line to an emissions solenoid controlled by an RPM switch, and then run a line from there directly to the aux. port hardline.

PistonLessRX 05-28-10 10:27 AM

I got it welded last night. Ill take pics of it and post what I had done.
