5th & 6th port actuation alternatives
 

So, with my aftermarket exhaust on my S4, I don't have enough back pressure to activate the actuators. I have heard before of people trying rather complicated things using pumps, etc, to fix this, but has anyone figured out a simpler method? moving the split air pipe further up, running them with different actuators and a vacuum line, etc?

i was told the other day that you can just gank those suckers and your car will be fine (not to mention faster at 4+rpm). so i've been considering doing that...any objections???

I searched for the same thing on here last week and found exactly what i needed. Its in the archives section for the 2nd gen. Its inexpensive and pretty easy to do.

1revin - You need the ports open at high RPM, closed at low RPM.

If they're always open, it'll seem like the car is faster, because the low RPM power will be lower than stock, but high RPM power will never be higher than stock.

i wasnt excited or conviced about fully removing the actuators. i know a guy that did it to his 7...hes likes it. (hes kinda ghetto tho so i figured i'd run it buy you guys b4 i went and did it)

Sorry didn't feel like reading the wrtie up once i saw it was just tapped into the air pump, this is how i first did mine except all i did was cut a small hole in the air pump hose and shove a vac line in it and attatched the other end to the actuator,l this should work but when the ports open will partly depend on the condition on the air pump. My favorite way was tha electric air pump from a ford taurus lumbar support. I just wired mine to a switch and kept em closed almost all the time for regular driving and then opened em when i wanted to, you could hook the pump up to an rpm activated switch (availible from summit or other places). The pump may evetually burn up but they are like 10 bucks new on ebay. After everything though i just wired them open, even with them closed i didn't have enough low end to get up steep parking garage ramps without giving some clutch so since i live on flat land i wired em open and i like it.

I'm going to hook mine up this spring via the air pump method, but will be drilling and tapping the air pump where the air comes in. Will post details.

I also made an RPM switch via the other method in the archive, but still have to test it.
