5 Lug Swap Question (already searched)
 
My 5 lug hubs and calipers are on the way, i already rodered my brembo rotors, I have a basic idea how to do the swap but just for safety sake can anyone direct my to a write up, or instructions. I already googled it and searched here extensively because i expect to be called an idiot for asking but none the less here I am. I just need a basic rundown of the process and a list of parts i will need to replace, and the specs of the new parts. I hope someone here can help me.

i actually am almost done with the swap. its pretty straight forward. but are you using your old knuckles or getting new ones with your hubs?

its super straight forward(not neccesarily meaning easy though) - unbolt old parts, replace with new parts. the 5 lug stuff goes on just like the 4 lug stuff(except the brake lines), so its not any different from just taking off and re-installing what you already have. any case, let me do a quick little write up:


Front:
-jack up car and support securely on jack stands.
-remove wheel
-remove brake caliper(2 bolts on back of caliper...14mm?) and brake lines
-remove the metal cap covering the spindle nut, using a flat head screwdriver and hammer and prying/twisting all around it, or if you're luck, and big pliers may be able to grab it and wiggle it off.
-remove spindle nut and front wheel bearing(make sure to keep either these, or the new ones clean). pull hub/rotor assembly off the spindle.
-get new 5 lug hub/rotor, and (recommended) install clean,re-packed bearing and new seal.
-slide on to spindle untill it goes all the way on
-install front bearing, washers, and spindle nut, and torque to specifications. install cotter pin to keepit from backing off, then use a hammer to tap the cap back on over the front untill it is securely in place.
-bolt on new caliper and brake line.
(do above steps to other side)

now you're ready for the back!

note*: if you aren;t using air tools, it may be advantageous to loosten the axle nut while the wheel is on the car, and ground. the center cap of the wheel will need to be removed, and then the 32mm socket should fit on the nut. since the wheel is still on the ground(with the parking brake on securely), you can use pretty much as big of breaker bar as you want to loosten the nut, wand not worry about the axle spinning, or not being able to get enough torque on the bar. once you've loostened the axle nut (on both sides) you can continue.

-jack up car and support with jack stands
-remove wheel
-unbolt the half-axle by removing the 4 bolts/nuts near the differential, and let the inside of the axle hang down.
-since we'vealready removed the axle nut, take a dead blow hammer(needs a soft face) and hit the front of the axle(where the nut went on) untill the axle slides out the back.
-make sure parking brake is not engaged.
-remove brake caliper and lines(including e-brake line)
-remove the bolts/nuts holding the rear hub assembly on(need some refreshing on locations of all these)
-remove the rear hub(this may be tricky to get everything to slide off smoothly...you'll understand when you get there)
-bolt on 5 lug hubs the same way as removal.
-slide the splines of the half-axle into the new hub, and bolt up the other side nearest the differential. do not worry about the big axle nut yet(but it may be threaded on if you would like)
-bolt on brake caliper and lines.
-once all 4 corners have been completed to this point, you will need to bleed the brake system.(hopefully you know how to do this)
-put new 5 lug wheels on all 4 corners and torque lug nuts accordingly, and let the car down.
-thread axle nuts on(rear wheels only) and torque to specs
-take a hammer and chisle, and dent in the nut at the appropriate area to ensure the axle nut will not back off.

congardulations!you've completed the 5 lug conversion!

hopefully I haven't forgotten any steps...

I also heard that i will need new brake lines for the 4 piston calipers is this true? Thanks for the rundown btw?

yup you need new lines. the knuckle is what the tie rod end ball joint and hub connect to.

oh yeah, when you take off your old brake lines use a tubing wrench.

Does it matter if it is LSD or open diff? Can it be Inter-changed?
