ok everyone... well, i finally decided to move my monster tach.... i was originally gonna just ditch it all-together, but decided to try something first.... i figured it wouldnt work, but put the man hours in anyways to prove myself wrong....

it took me around 5 hours to do it and one hell of a headache... but it finally fit, and everything should work w/ no problem.... if soemthing doesnt work, ill throw it away and put a stock one back in.... but it turned out great in my opinion!

note...the stock tach has never worked, so i didnt just do this for shits and giggles... it was either this, or have no tach!

wildfc3s 08-28-06 09:02 PM

looks great

snowball 08-28-06 09:25 PM

err i dont know about looks great, but it is functional.

alexdimen 08-28-06 09:53 PM

what was wrong with the old one? sorry, that looks really bad. you've got a hot fc otherwise.

vipers 08-28-06 10:48 PM

lol... i like it, but i wish the tach had been black..... then it would almost "blend" in....

im not sure what was wrong w/ the stock one... spent alot of time tracing wires, and trying to figure it out, but never could

:ugh2:

Wh1t3 C0m3t 08-30-06 08:17 AM

i agree that black would look better but u do what u gotta, and if it works thats all u need

Dcrasta 08-30-06 08:24 AM

U californians are wierd.
:)

jgrts20 08-30-06 08:41 AM

Ah, vipers is always looking to do something different. Not bad. I will be a Cali guy next year.

jkimbro 08-30-06 09:13 AM

Funtionality 1st. You could always go back and find a black one later. I wish the plexiglass on the front wouldn't be hacked as bad as it is either....maybe a little closer fit to the tach.

90WhiteVrt 08-30-06 10:54 AM

Remove the stupid plastic cover, it'll look better.

2003330i 08-30-06 11:01 AM

i think that looks pretty good. Better then having a huge tach on your dash board. Thats in their nicly

bacek 08-30-06 11:24 AM

buy some cheap white gauges and replace the old ones..... thats the easiest fix

(i dont like it, although functional but if you bought white gauges it would match perfectly)

vipers 08-30-06 02:11 PM

the white face guage thing isnt a bad idea... i never liked them (always thought of them as "ricey", but it would look better).... hell, they are only like $20, if i dont like em', ill throw them away...

thanx for the compliments guys... i figured this was gonna be an ass raping:) and as for the glass, its not set in stone whether it stays or not.... i dont really like the big hole in it, but i had to do it, and i was limited on my recources

Madrx7racer 08-30-06 02:48 PM

someone said ass raping???????

It looks fine....better than on the dash or a NON-working tach........

Dom_C 08-30-06 05:42 PM

would there be anyway to mount it flush with the gauge face or is that already flush? Maybe counter synce it a bit so that it's not so protruding.

Madrx7racer 08-30-06 05:48 PM

I would put it on it's side (90*CCW turn)if you are using an aftermarket wheel.......I can't see the top of the STOCK tach with the MOMO wheel, so I assume it will make seeing this tach much harder

LittleCon 08-30-06 05:59 PM

i think it looks good (better than no tach anyway).

maybe you should get some of the black rubber liner to go around that cut in the clear cover? That'd make it seem more professional(?)

SCCAIT7 08-30-06 06:14 PM

Eh.... Tach..... over-rated... Listen- Feel the engine.... Stops pulling....shift gears... If you can't hear an engine screaming you should be driving an automatic anyway...

I like the look...

staticguitar313 08-30-06 06:38 PM

+1 for black

Carzy Driver 08-30-06 06:44 PM

+2 for black...

though I would have tried replacing the stock water temp/ oil pressure/ boost gauges first before the tach.

classicauto 08-30-06 07:03 PM

was the gauge cluster hungry? :lol2:

Meh, Im neutral on it - don't really like the loo, but Im always gonna commend something Ive never seen.....

i spent alot of time trying to figure out a way to do it.. but the back of the cluster has a electrical grid that cant be cut/moved... otherwise the other guages wont work... i had to hack up the tach to fit in there.. as it is, i had to destroy the inside of the cluster to fit it in there.. and it barely fit...

i am using auto meter guages for those also, but they arent going into the cluster... they will be in pods.... also, egt's, and oil temp

The "stupid" plastic cover is there to prevent reflections. That's why it's steeply angled. Without it you won't be able to see the instruments pretty much any time the sun out. So removing it would be stupid...

staticguitar313 08-31-06 03:53 AM

shoulda just hacked it up since your putting in aftermarket guages for the other ones, the speedo is independant of the cluster and the four shitty mini guages could be removed and maybe two regular size guages put there (fuel level and something else)
