5/6 point racing harness

I was wondering if there is any way to put in a 5 or 6 point racing harness in a stock seat vert? Or do i need to have special seats. If it requires new seats i will just hold off until i get my TII. Reason is in order for me to participate in certain evens i need a 5 or 6 point harness

How do you plan on running the harness through stock seats? Definitely need racing seats.

2 Attachment(s)
Or if the vert seats have removable/adjustable head rests, you can fabricate harness ports like these (see image 1) that slide down the two headrest posts.

Also, keep in mind that you will need something to fasten the shoulder harnesses to like a harness bar on a rollbar (see image 2). And of course, the lap belts and submarine belts will need to have attachment points on the floor.

Rollbar?

It's been stated before when people ask about harnesses, If you don't have a cage, you shouldn't have harnesses. What happens when you go over on the top of the car, whats protecting you from the ground above? Because the harnesses are going to hold you right against the seat like their suppose to.

If you need seats, either fab up that bracket like shown above or go to pep boys and buy a seat. They have some cheap ones that look alright.

You still need something to mount the harnesses to though.

well im in the process of finding a place that will make me a roll bar for my vert. Mainly for looks but i want to make sure it is functional too. I guess for the harnesses i will hold off on them for my TII

What kind of event requires a 5 point harness, but not a roll bar for a 'vert?

jake1191 01-29-09 04:56 PM

last post says roll bar in the making

Mainly for looks and somewhat functional does not sound to me like someone building in requirements. So I ask again, what kind of event are you driving in?

Probably HIN or NOPI

no HIN or NOPI. I was planning on auto-x on a local track. Not sanctioned by anyone major just local stores.

The post about the roll bar does not say somewhat functional at all. All i meant by that post was it will be painted or powder coated not just left steel or painted black so it looks good. It will be 100% functional and needs to be? Unlike the civic i saw with a pvc roll cage

Well you see 87 t-66, not all of us have the 800$ set of infini seats. They sure do look good though...:bigthumb:

<*sigh*>

Do a search in the racing section. This topic has been talked about many times before.

If you are putting a roll bar in a convertible and are primarily concerned with looks, then you are a fool. Make sure whoever puts the bar in knows what they are doing (as in, have done full cages before).

If you are going to use a harness, you must use a sub belt. If you go with a six-point rig you can anchor them behind the seat and sit on them so you don't have to cut a hole in the seat bottom (like you do for a 5 or 7 point).

Good luck,

-bill
