4 digit code on key, is that the key code?

Hi
I was going to buy some new keys through mazdaspeed parts program, they tell me the key code is required. Looking at the current keys I have, they have a 4 digit code just underneath the plastic portion. Is that the key code?
I have 2 rx7s, and both are unique.

I will call mazdasports parts program to find out, but they aren't open just yet, thought I'd make a post so we can keep a record.

Thanks
Alex

Yes, that four digit number is the key code. When Mazda makes you a key, they would require that code and proof of ownership.

yes that's the key code. the original keys that came with the car were stamped with the code.

is there any place with the key code printed other than the key? im a fb guy but now have a 91 vert and the key is all worn out and theres no mazda key with the code around. i know on fb's the code was stamped onto the pass door lock i think. the local stealership wants 93.50 for a vin check and then cut a key off that.

try a different dealer. or PM me

The dealer can look up the key if you provide the vin...if they have records that far back.

OR

Buy a worn out lock cylinder and start the car with anything...including loose change.

Are you sure the key is worn out? Maybe it's the tumblers inside the key cylinder. You can open the cylinder and swap tumblers around and do a little filing to make the key work like new...even if it's worn.

YOu can use a iLCO x131 mz13 or curtis mz14 found at your local hardware store, assuming you have a key to begin with.

I got 2 keys for 5 bucks or something.

They can usually cut a new key if it isnt worn to bad.

I'm down to one key since the covered one I had broke off in my doors so I went to a local Ace hardware & they told me they couldn't make copies of a double sided key.

then they should sell you a hammer in case you get locked out!

If they can't cut a double sided key they don't know WTF they are doing..so try another store.!

You wanna try getting a Key cut?..try getting a SAAB key made!

I"m not THAT good yet, I'm starting to get used to eyeballing Kwikset and Schlage keys by number

I've heard some things from the REAL locksmiths that can be kinda scary
