4.30 differential question

Well, a guy I know bought a JDM S5 differential 4.30. The thing is, the flange on the diff is as big as an NA one and his manual TII driveshaft is too short to bolt up to the diff anyhow...

So I'm guessing that what he got is an NA automatic differential. Right?

I know that the driveshaft of an Auto is longer than manual and that the flange of an NA is slighlty smaller than the TII one.

Or is there something I'm missing?

And another question, ro comfirmantion I would like to have. The NA diff is 4.10 and the auto one is 4.30, right?

EDIT: And something else, which LSD is better, S4 or S5?

Thank you.

That's differential I have bought ! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...223069087&rd=1

Interesting. I thought the 4.3 only came in the GTUs....
Read the FAQ at the top of the forum, it got the dealer spec sheets.

If I want the perfect drive shaft for this differential, I need the gtu's manual tranny drive shaft ?

On ebay, the guy say this differential is a JSPEC... is not true ?

I checked already, it only lists models with 4.10

The GTUs came with an NA 4.30. The Infini came with a turbo 4.30. As far as I know, all autos came with a 3.90.

I think is the infini diff but it is normal my drive shaft TII does'nt fit on Infini diff ?

I'm sure someone here knows this.

Right?

I bet your TII driveshaft doesn't fit because you bought a diff out of a GTUs

Spectator 05-08-08 02:26 PM

If its not long enough, would that mean its from an NA auto GTUs?

Well if it bolts up to your halfshalfts and you have a TII rear end the its from an infini.

The guy who I bought this, say '' It was in a right hand drive JDM Turbo Car. ''

Then my differential is Infini. But it's normal the Infini was 2cm smaller vs TII differential ? And the TII drive shaft does't fit on it but my drive shaft n/a yes ( flange ).

Another alternative could be that its from an FD. I think those will fit in a TII rearend, or maybe its just the diff itself and not the pumpkin, I don't recall.

There are no NA's in Japan. All the cars were Turbo only. The US is the only place to get NA differentials. If it is true JDM, then this piece would have the larger flanges.

So… Here are the facts:

#1 The only 4.30 diffs are found in the NA GTUs (USA) and the very rare Infini model found overseas (Japan / Australia). Therefore, unless the diff was modified, I’d be suspicious about this unit being a 4.30…

#2 All the Differentials in the NA and the Turbo cars are the same physical size. The flanges are different, but the cases are all the exact same size and interchangeable.

#3 I’m pretty sure that Automatic drive shafts are shorter than 5-speed drive shafts, since automatic transmissions are longer than the 5-speed.

If his driveshaft flange is bigger than the diff flange, then the diff is from an NA.

If the driveshaft is too short, then I would guess you have an automatic driveshaft.
