3800 rpm hesition

Guys, I have a 86 non-turbo ,67k & Im the 2nd owner. Car was always dealer maint. by previous owner till I got it 15 mos ago. Its been great till a hesitation developed between 3500- 4000 .Its runs normal out of that rpm range. It started before x-mas & was bearable I guess ,but is starting to bother me. The car sits sometimes 4-8 weeks & its hard to open it up above 5000 rpm where I live. I found a little info about the secondary injectors & the butterfly valves that open off the exhaust, which may get carboned up. I think those two things are the most likely I just need to get started on diagnosing / repairing the problem. Any direction on this would be great......Thanks,TONYK

Search the 2nd gen forum for "hesitation" you'll find a crapload of stuff.

Welcome to the forum.

I'll start off by tellin ya that the search button on the top right hand corner will do WONDERS in the 2nd gen section, or anywhere in this forum!

The hesitation could be caused by many things.

First thing to check is the 5th/6th ports. This is for the 6 port induction the non-turbos come with. And what do ya know... they kick in right at 3800 RPM.

To test if your ports are working:

If that doesnt take care of it, you might want to try grounding your car.

Not sure how familiar you are with a car's electronics... but the negative terminal of the battery is also linked to the car's chassis. Thus, making the entire metal portion of your car the "negative wire". Well, crud gets built up, wires come off etc etc. Grounding your car and adding new grounds will help fix alot of little problems you may be having (it fixed my hesitation).

This is a good time to learn how to search ;)

Good luck!

Try regrounding (if you search there are like 5-10 threads a week about this), that usually takes care of the dreaded 3800 hesitation :D also could be 5-6 aux ports but I'd put money that it's the grounds - you'd be suprised what bad grounds can do ! Good luck!

must... re-ground...engine...

there's a sticky in the FAQ's about grounding, too :D
