2nd Gen RX7 buying guide

Hi there,
i am really interested to by a RX7 2nd Gen FC. But i have heard from my mechanic that rotary engine give a lot of problem.(Esp the older ones.)

I have a few question which i would find some answer for. Hope you guys can help me out.

* Does it cost a lot more than other cars to maintain it ? (Budgeted)

* Any website that teach you how to diagnose or have a buying guide that teach you how to check a 2nd Gen.

* Are the engine very problematic?

* How much distance can you cover with a full tank?

* Is the car suitable for drifting?

* What mileage should i be looking at, if i want a rotary engine that will last me for at least 1 to 2 years before some major major servicing that will cost me a bomb.

* Are there any good mechanic in Australia(Brisbane) that repair, service and tune RX7 well?

Thanks a lot.

go read the Factory service manual (FSM) back to back and u'll have an idea what you are up agaist.
I did before i got my... well i picking it up tommorrow.

you can find it here under howto ---> then under manual.
www.fc3s.org

also go read the whole site.
http://fc3s-pro.com/
if you understand everything on that site they you will be ready

gas mileage kinda sucks... espcially for the turbo ones... expcet gas mileage equivalent to a V-8.

engines are problematic when you take care of them... try to buy an rx7 off of another rx7 enthusist or car nut... they will understand the need to keep it in good condition when compared to some old lady who never changes the oil.

mileage? could vary... depends how much u want to spend... what i've noticed that if u are going for a turboII is regardless if high miles or low miles you are still paying a lot for them.

Austrailia eh? talk to NZconvertible he knows his shit good.

full tank of gas? turbo ones will give around 400 kilometers i think... thats if you aren't too liberal with the pedal.

i've heard that so many times, but for some reason that just turned me off a little from the rx-7s. But who cares

I don't think it costs any more to maintain than other cars. (in stock condition) The same ware and tare stuff will go at some point. It's a older car so perhaps more of parts will go. I don't think they're any worse than semi-modern american cars. Parts are a bit pricier than for some other cars. (I think they're in line for Mazda) The engine is reliable if maintained. Lots of people around here drive thier cars hard, but baby them on maintanance and the engine lasts.
