2nd gear redline ?

i was driving today
and redline 2nd gear, @ 7500rpm
and i had a glance at the speedometer and it show 75mph
is that right?? or it was 65 mph i saw??

it is a S5 T2

dre_2ooo 04-18-02 10:05 PM

60-65 sounds about right.

Juan 04-18-02 10:10 PM

60-65mph should be what your car is going at. Unless you have some weirdo sized wheels/tires then 75mph would be what u saw.

NZConvertible 04-18-02 10:16 PM

Should be about 65mph by my calcs.

baix2 04-18-02 11:01 PM

yeah i forgot to mention that my wheel/tire are stock setup

i reason i post this topic is that i think i saw 70mph couple days ago when redline, and today it was almost like 72,73 mph when i shifted into 3rd

anyway, thx for the inputs, i will double check on that later on

baix2 04-18-02 11:40 PM

and ok guys
quick question
how does the speedometer measure the speed of the car?
how does different wheel/tire size affect the measurement??

do they measure it like airbad sensor?? using MEMS chip to measure acceleration, thru calculation to intepret into speed??

or they measure it from the revolution of the front wheel? (for a rear wheel drive car)

Ranzo 04-18-02 11:47 PM

It measures it via a gear in the transmission, which turns a cable that connects to the tach.

baix2 04-19-02 12:28 AM

so if i jacked up the car in the middle of air and then go through 1st and 2nd gear etc
the speedometer will show number?

bob13bt 04-19-02 07:24 AM

yes, just be careful not to knock it off the jackstands while your back tires are doing 60 mph!!!

Actually, it connects to the speedometer.
The tach's signal is taken electronically from the coils.

True so true. I meant to say the speedometer. Hey it s one of those days.

"You were talking about the fuel pump *resistor* please show me this resistor. hahaha you little fags over there know nothing of Japanese cars. You want and are left wanting........"
Racist bastard is angry b/c I pointed out that he was wrong.
Maybe you should study the wiring diagrams for your car, the Resistor which lowers the voltage to the fuel pump is located in the relay unit, the one below the air filter.
Resistor can be seen here, with the proper wiring information:

Ranzo 04-21-02 08:17 PM

What are you talking about, this has nothing to do with a speedometer. Dude are you smoking Crack?

scathcart 04-21-02 08:23 PM

No, this has to do with the PM you sent me.
Thought ppl might like to see your racist comment on how us ppl in NA don't know shit about cars.
Sean Cathcart

Ranzo 04-21-02 08:47 PM

When was anybody racist??? What race did i mention? but what would you know about racing anyway aside from racing your mouth. Its the Human Race man....the human race.

don-tacos 04-21-02 08:56 PM

What does this have to do with the speedometer thread???
If you got a problem with this guy, take it off forum.

Don't air your dirty underwear where we have to sift through this crap!!!

WE DON"T CARE!!!!!!

scathcart 04-21-02 09:26 PM

Thanks for your single post to tell someone off. What a joke. You're a big help. I am more than hepful to the members of this forum, you have made a single comment telling someone how to do their business. Piss off.

Ranzo:
If you don't like the comments you made to me to be posted here, don't make them. I felt it was extremely racist of you to say that north americans don't know shit about these cars compared to Japan residents. I made a post about your incorrect ifnormation, and you begin to flame me
That's against forum rules.
Sean Cathcart

don-tacos 04-21-02 10:26 PM

well ain't your panties all up in a bunch. Fact of the matter remains this was not a thread about how helpful you are to other members of the forum... or about resistors on the fuel pump... but I belieive it was about 2nd gear redline and speedometers...
I've been reading the forum for a while but everytime I find a decent thread you pop up with your sarcastic comments and your holier than thou attitude, spouting off about how few posts one makes on the board about how much you know... who cares
who cares if I post for the first time or the 1008th time...
piss off eh?
get a life, grow up and try to go drive your car instead of ranting on this forum about how much you know and how helpful you think you are... whatever...

scathcart 04-21-02 11:23 PM

This forum is about helping people. Those who offer help deserve respect.
I have 950 posts helping people. You have none. Judge me how you want, but those whom I have helped are grateful to me. Lord knows I am grateful to those who have helped me, as it should be.
So, in all honesty, you can think all you want about me. I am helpful and those whom I help will agree. You, on the other hand, are just an insulting disrespectful child. You have offered no help and any input you have given to this forum has been negative. Thanx for your contribution.
And for this, you can piss off.

i dunno, i kinda like scathcarts attitude, he doesnt take shit from people and he certainly doesnt have a "holier than thou" attitude. i think it was pretty shitty of ranzo to say that, and i want to know when someone on the forum is being a jackass.

i dont like to help jackasses. and i wont help ranzo anymore

thanks for posting that sean!!!

scathcart seems to have a couple of dozen replies that are helpful, but the rest seem to rail on people. Jeez, this guy has some inferiority issues going on. Gee, I hope he doesn't respond to this with some more threads that are "helpful". :stickpoke

Sean's posted a hell of a lot more helpful replys and shared a lot more knowledge than I've seen from you. I suggest you keep these stupid little comments to yourself.

scathcart 04-25-02 06:37 PM

Thanks, NZ. Means quite a bit, actually. I am beginning to rate whether it is worthwhile to come on here and post anymore.
No one cares what I post, and there's always someone else to answer a question.
I do however find it funny that someone like Jerk racer would make such a comment.
Talk about the cauldron calling the pot black.....
Sean

Jerk_Racer 04-25-02 07:38 PM

scathcart, once again you are coming up with accusations from thin air. I never claimed to be helpful. I don't feel that I have do claim such things. I'm not insecure like that. I saw in a recent post that you blasted somebody and called them a newbie when they only had over 300 posts, but yet they were registered on the forum a month longer than you. You need your head checked. On this post alone you dragged another members PM to you and posted it publicly. The point of that PM was to keep that stuff off of here. They were mature enough to realize this, but you weren't somehow.
The door is that way. You are correct, nobody cares about your post, so buh-bye. You'll be missed. Or is your word completely worthless and you'll keep posting here. Go on and prove me wrong and leave. I'd love to be wrong. :p:

brad_88fc-na-gxl 04-25-02 08:26 PM

Im with Sean on this..... This forum to me is for learning and sharing advice/experiances... I find his posts very helpful and there are way more appropriate ways of correcting someone then a cheap & ignorant PM disrespecting the ENTIRE of North America ... I don't know if you have had a problem with someone from "this side of the world" but certainly don't hold us all in contempt..

Because I don't have a problem with you....
