is 200whp doable on S5 N/A?

I just did a compression check and its seem like the rear rotor have a blown apex seal. I get no compression on the rear rotor at all, its just quietly turning. My previous option was to go JDM TII swap but the more I think about it, it not worth the money because eventually I will need to rebuild again. So right now I'm leaning forward to Modding my NA s5. I've looked into Rotaryressurection website and I found good info on rotary motor. My goal is to have a good fairly quick street car so I set my goal at 200whp. So far I have RB dual exhaust, RB Header, I will fabricate mid section to replace the cat, Koyo Radiator with electric fan, custom K&N cold air intake. I will most like send the motor out and have it rebuild and while I'm at it, I will get street porting option. But the question is which SP'ing is good for 200whp and will I achieve it with mods above or I still need more mod? Thanks

If you want to build an N/A FC, consider using a carb. Really cheap to do, and works out really well. 200RWHP is definately doable in that setup.

new manifold, streetport, intake, exhaust, fuel, fuel computer and tuning....

wheres kahren when you need him

Do you have more info on this?

[QUOTE]new manifold, streetport, intake, exhaust, fuel, fuel computer and tuning....QUOTE]

Can the stock manifold do the job or I have to get new manifold and do I really need fuel? I thought stock injectors are enough for 200whp, not to sure about fuel pump, do I need to upgrade fuel pump?
Can a SAFC do the fuel computer job? I have one laying around and I'm pretty familiar with it.

gscully 06-09-06 07:51 PM

for 200whp I'd think your best bet would be to use a TII fuel pump, stand alone might be better for your goals. Do a search under Kahren he's made some good power na, and another one I've seen 88integraLS or something like that. You'd get a good idea from looking at some of their posts

200HP needs:

Header back exhaust
CAI
SAFC
Kahren Streetport with support fuel mods (550cc's and a Walbro).

That'll have it making 200HP :)

If it is a street car in NJ, stay away from carbs.

Stick with EFI, for the changing weather conditions . . .

Go with a full standalone, like a megasquirt. Unlike the safc you can also tune ignition with the megasquirt, and you can get rid of your AFM in your intake which is a restriction.

arghx 06-10-06 11:19 AM

don't even bother with the stock ECU if you really want that kind of power

SimplyComplex 06-10-06 04:00 PM

Yeah, sorry. I forgot that not everyone lives in Florida. Don't carb.

RE_GTUs 06-10-06 04:36 PM

I had a 1986 GXl,
street ported RB header, pre sil,y pipe, mufflers,
k n intake , everything was stipped and blocked off on the motor, no omp, ect. ect. ect.
I put down 160rwhp,

with a nice SAFC tune I bet I coulda got close to 170-175ish whp

rotorforce 06-10-06 05:47 PM

Standalone's, + ports, + supporting fuel mods, + exhaust, + intake, and maybe just maybe 200whp = more money then it would have cost you to buy a TII and make it 250-300HP if not more. Just my input and not worth shit, but just think about it.:)

Thanks for all the great info.
Most people reccomend stand alone, but how much for stand alone?
I dont want to be to a dyno queens or reccord breaking, I just want a quick street car. This car will be my weekend bracket racing car, if I can run 13s in the 1/4mile, I'll be happy. I dont plan to make it into a full race car because I want to drive the car to the track, not towing it. If stock computer/safc will get me 200whp or close to it, I'll stick with stock ecu. BTW, how much fro Kahren full rebuild with street port? I have $2500 to play with and I hope that's enough.

RE_GTUs 06-10-06 07:47 PM

I think you'd be fine with a safc.

With what you are thinking of adding and with the recommendations of others, you will not see 13's.... It's been covered and argued too many times. Good luck with your FC it sounds like it will be a fun ride once your work is done:)

are you sure I wont be able to get into 13s? My 95 M3(daily driver :)) ran 14.0 bone stock with 240bhp and the car weight 3280lbs, I think an FC with 200whp, 2800lbs will get into mid to high 13s. Plus this is a GTUs with different gear so I dont see how it wont be able to break 13s? Anybody with me?

synesthete 06-10-06 11:20 PM

Probably not.
Theres a lot of variables. Don't forget that peak horsepower doesnt mean much if you arent getting good numbers down low as well. The M3s are pretty damn quick.

I would guess you at somewhere in the low 14s with nice porting and a standalone.

Honestly the drag strip is not where the rx7 shines.

Most of the turbo guys are shooting for low 13s or high 12s.... My friend has a naturally aspirated h22 honda doing 13.3... So even the turbos are getting beat by cars with lower displacement and no boost.

Drag racing isn't the rx7s ball game imo. The rx7 is fast as hell when there is corners involved tho.

RE_GTUs 06-10-06 11:57 PM

the motor set up that I spoke of earlier on my gxl
160whp
I ran a 14.5 or sumthin

JDuncan 06-11-06 12:48 PM

I don't know why people say stay away from the stock ecu for this. A stock port ITS RX-7 makes 170 whp with exhaust, cai, and an adjustable fpr on the stock ecu. I can't imagine how a mild streetport wouldn't provide the final part of the equation to 200+ whp

American Rice 06-11-06 01:01 PM

ya now ppl dont get mad at me here, but the rex's dont really stand out at the track. That is all I am about is the drag track, and thats why I wanted to go with the 388 sbc stroker engine. Because the low end torque that I will get off the line and the pull the car will have though the whole 1/4 will be nice. And just so that no everyone gets mad at me, my car didn't come with a rotary in it. Wish it would of to expirence it, but the guy had a stupid 2.8L v6 chevy engine. Was pretty gutless had trouble cooking rubber off with it ! lol

fidelity101 06-11-06 01:42 PM

if your going NA do the miata or 12a tranny swap.

I'll post results of my 12a tranny 13b s4 streetport with full RB exhaust and AFC tunning, E-FAN, intake oh and cant forget the aluminum flywheel. I just gotta get the time to install everything.

the 12a tranny has shorter 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears. just swap the tail shafts.

and soon after all this I'm going to do the TB mod and hybrid s4/s5 intake manifold.
