The 200k Club! (Pics)

Where were you when your RX-7 hit 200,000 miles? I was on the Cross-town freeway merging onto I5 in south Stockton :) Yup, my daily did it! 200k on the original motor! This car has been so problem free it sick. Nothing but regular maintenance & my auto tranny packed up somewhere around 180k .. so its now a 5 speed. I didn't have my camera in the car when I turned 200.. so I just took a pic when I got home.

Post your high mileage Pics & stories, I think Mazda should give me a badge or something .. maybe put me in a commercial :) Haha

Here is the engine that did it;

A rotary made it 200k? Unbelievable!
Quite an accomplishment, For you and your car :)

zyounker 07-29-02 03:03 PM

Not really suds.. NA rotarys make it there quite often...

Most that you find used now a days have 140-180K on them.. I have actually talked to people that got to 300K before. wish i remembered who..

249,946 miles. Sitting in Post Ofiice parking lot and Apex seal let go. Car consistantly pulled 7K until then

What is that tube across the top of the throttle body?
Bill

Rpeck 07-29-02 03:13 PM

That their my friend is the key to my cars longevity. Its a custom made upper Rotor housing & intake breather tube & condensation remover.

Aaron Cake 07-29-02 03:18 PM

The tube is for the A/C.

Rpeck 07-29-02 03:29 PM

Haha obviously I am just kidding about the hose. I took those pictures & posted them up here on the forum .. I took a look at my post and I asked myself the same thing “What the hell is that hose”? So I promptly walked out side to get a better look … and I realized Doah! That’s the tube I was using to bleed my clutch slave cylinder last week. Don’t try this at home folks .. only trained professionals should drive around 200 miles with a unattached 2 Ft. long hose sitting on the top of there engine. Ohh well, live and learn Right?

Sorry Aaron, that was a damn good guess considering there is not much else it could be besides; not sopopsed to be there period :)

zelgadiss-san 07-29-02 03:37 PM

heh, I bought mine with 85k original miles on it. but today I officially have driven it 100 miles.

BDoty311 07-29-02 03:50 PM

Today my odometer read: 220,000. Its the 2nd motor though so Im not surpirsed.

Actually the key to your engine's longevity is the lack of an intercooler where that hose is sitting. :) Congrats on 200k+ miles!

Nice fucking work guys! This is nothing more than a sign of classic immaculate car maintenance at its best.

Buy yourselves some good beer, and go for a drive (myabe not in that order...)

banzaitoyota 07-29-02 06:34 PM

How Many turbo guys have hit 249 K on the original engine??

Bueller?
Bueller?
Anyone?

Heh? I can't hear you!!

Rpeck 07-29-02 06:36 PM

Ya, I’m proud of my 200k’er not only do I take her to work daily.. but she never bitches. Never floods, starts first time everytime, doesn’t leak a drop of oil, holds a very steady 800ish idle. Doesn’t burn excessive oil, passed Califonia dyno smog check II just over a month ago.. And its all on the original motor. She still has very decent power for a N/A also. And I get right around 20 MPG on the highway! She will see 300k I will make sure of it. And I hope to do it on this motor.

SaabGuy 07-29-02 09:00 PM

Theres a tII up here with 172k miles on the original engine. Still ran too!!

We were too busy going fast and enjoying the cars in the way they were meant to be enjoyed! :)

My odo reads 212k...its not the original, the car has 110k and the engine 2k.

You won't believe this but mine clicked over ON MY DRIVEWAY!! I left school and drove home knowing that it was at like 199 989 or somthing like that. I pulled into my driveway, and it was sitting right on the dot!
200 000!!! What are the chances of that eh!!

TurboSmoke 07-30-02 04:41 PM

my 87 i use to have had 280,000 orig motor and everything never spent one day in the shop. i sold her about 6 months ago my 91 i have right now had 112k on it when i bought it last aug as of right now she has 132k but i think she is gunna need a transplant

turboren 07-30-02 04:54 PM

I had a little over 230k on my first 86 when I blew an apex seal on #1 rotor. Of course, redlining in 1st gear at an autocross (because of shot 2nd gear synchros) will do that...

Ren

J-Rat 07-30-02 08:16 PM

My car got 216,000 on the original motor before the seals started going bad.
