1991 Vert Radio Question
 

Just got my new 1991 Vert and with it came the stock radio setup. Headrest speakers, door speakers, and 1 behind each seat. Behind the driver seat is the amp/what the radio uses (sorry don't know official term :P ) Well, radio and speakers work perfectly. The CD player and Tape player is a different story. When I put in a tape, it goes click click(from the deck) then the whole radio turns off and a click from the radio thing behind the seat.. The CD player takes in the cd, then spits it out, and I hear a click from the thing behind the seat. So what do you all think? Might be a normal thing and I just have a loose wire somewhere.

The tape player sounds bad, my friends 82 ford truck does that, continious click click click, not sure what it is but I hear no sound so it's prolly the heads screwed up, I suppose you can check if the tape even spins at all? meh.

As for the cd player, if it takes it in and spits it out, it's either not loading properly or it's blank, depends. Does it spit it out right away or does it spin and you hear it trying to read it?

Now I've never delt with stock radio much, nor did mine have a cd player but thats what I know cd players do, you may just need to have to clean the lense (if its trying to read it)

Well, I would see if spins the tape, but all I have is the tape to mp3 adapter. so it doesn't spin much :P The CD player though, it takes it in, and spits it out. Whether it be a burnt CD or a...official CD. I keep hearing a clicking noise from the box behind my seat. That is what gets me. Idk if something inside there messed up or what. I had a leak from the drain in the top and water was sitting down there so I can safely assume something is corroded somewhere :P

The box behind should be a amp, try disconnecting it I suppose maybe its shorting the radio? If the cd player just spits it out, the radio is prolly effed up.

Does normal radio play? The only other thing I could think with the amp clicking is it going on and off, I've had amps that do that (in myhouse too)

Band are bad in the tape player and the sled needs replacing in the CD player.

I was told the sleds have been discontinued last year, but you might be able to find some radio repair shop that has that old sled around.

Otherwise just replace them.

It is not a wiring issue.

New question, is it hard to wire an aftermarket radio with the amp? I'll search if there is a thread on this.

You'll want to get rid of the amp, the stock radio supplys a certain amount of power through the channels to the amp, if you use a aftermarket which are ususally 25watt or more per channel, it'll blow the stock amp which I believe needs 5watts? I don't know, read the FAQ or search you might find info.

I'd replace the amp and rewrire everything, my fc had no amps luckly. The stock wires are very thin and brittle, +1 for all new speaker wires :)

^ yeah might just want to replace everything... take out amps and just have replaces with a name brand deck...

So is there any way to retain the headrest speakers with an aftermarket setup? Also is there a way to upgrade the headrest speakers?

You can run an amp to the headrest speakers and use the fader to control volume. Any other way gets really tricky.
The speakers in the headrest are a realy werid size. 3x2 if i remember, there aren't any easy ways to replace them either.

Thanks for the info! Has anyone found really good 4" and 5 1/4" speakers to replace the stock ones with.
