1991 NA GXL electrical issues (I looked)
 

I wasreadingthrough the FAQ section, trying to trouble shoot an electrical problem I'm having. But the link to the S5 wiring diagram is dead.

Basically, all my lights are dead, with the exception of my head lights.

I checked the the light, actually I replaced the lights. Didn't so a damn thing..

I inspected the light socket, for burns or corrosion... Nothing.

I checked the fuse under the steering colum (20amp) it's perfectly fine.

I have an extra little whiting harness thY comes from the headlight switch, but don't want to tear out the dash to replace it before I check with you guys to see if there is an easier solution.

I'm pretty sure it's not the wiring harness I mentioned before, because hazards, brake lights, and turn signals shouldn't be tied to a headlight switch (right????)

Especially when the damn headlights are working perfectly fine...

When connecting the front driver side running light, it corrects the problem. Brake lights function properly, and get my running lights at all 4 corners.

But my turn signals are still down.

When I turn the signal indicator lever, I can hear it clicking, but no light responce.

When I ga e the turn signal a direct connection from the battery, the clicking noise increased 2x

This makes me think it's getting power, but maybe a relay is not functioning properly.

Any help???

Not really an S5 oriented kind of guy,But at this point I am assuming you would invite any kind of feedback/opinion/guess etc.
To me,it sounds like your Light switch has taken a dive.
did you Replace the Illumination Fuse under the dash?Try that.
Could be the Flasher CPU also.That controls the Signals.
there is a fuse box LID on this Link here:https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-faq-fc-494667/ it shows where what the fuses are under the dash,.I am assuming you replaced a 20 amp STOP fuse.?
anyways.all I can think of right now.At least you wil get More answers,(If I am wrong someone will Promptly want to Corrcet me and POST!..lol!)

Yep, I checked the ILLUM (15amp) fuse and STOP (20amp) fuse, and both are fine.

I'm still thinking it's a relay.

Moved a couple fuses around in the fuse block in the engine bay, seems I may have been missing one...

WTF?

Ended up breaking the top off of the 100 amp fuse in the center of the fuse block (it's a fixed fuse)

Does anybody know if this is a Mazda fuse, or if it's genaric?

CPU?

The module that controls the functions that I'm having issues with.

Do these often go bad?

That 100A fuse is generic. I blew mine installing my alternator (so THAT's why the first step in any under-hood project is to unplug the battery....:lol:)

Just replaced the 100 amp fuse, I'm starting to think it's a bad ground issue...

It's 104f outside, so I'm not too inspired to work on this thing much more today.

Is there a spicific ground that commonly goes bad, that causes these symptoms?

I was told to look for a ground wire in the spare wheel well, but I didn't see it.

Are any of the light housings used as a ground? (I've ran into this in the past with different cars)

CPU tested fine, must be something else...

Any suggestions?
