1990 S5 GTU N/A RX7 - Need new ignition lock and key

Thieves attempted to drive off with my FC last night. Door lock works, but not the ignition lock.

I've looked at Mazdatrix and Atkins Rotary to get a replacement for my ignition lock with keys, but no luck. I only see for Series 4, but not for Series 5.

Any recommendations in locating a new set of ignition lock with keys for a Series 5? I've tried Google, but I keep getting Series 4 in my searches. I've seen another member's thread about taking it to a locksmith, but I figure with the damage done to the ignition keyhole, I may as well replace it.

the part number is FC01-76-290 for a manual w/o airbag, and FC07-76-290 for a/t w/o airbag

Crap! I got one in my parts car, but I can't find the keys.

I got an Idea.
you can Post an AD In the Classifieds section saying you are looking for one??
I just posted this info..
you can get used SETS for under 100 bucks,..that is IF you take the time to post an AD.

I didn't even think about that. I'll give that a shot too. I may be able to get one from another FC owner in NorCal, but I'd have to double check the plugs as the one he has now was spliced together.

Locksmith can make it - inexpensive too.

I guess that's another item to add to the list of things to take off before the shell goes to the scrapyard.

I paid $25 last time with 2 keys. I gave them the trunk lock it contains all the information to make the key but if you are taking the ignition out anyhow just give them that. Keep everything together including the trunk and doors locks for a complete set

maybe i'm a complete idiot and read it that he has his key still and the ignition lock is now inoperable due to damage.

how else would he know the door locks without the key? i know i was tired when i read that but i'm not quite understanding how the thief stole the key but failed to get the car. it's pretty easy to get past the door lock without a key, not so easy to get past the ignition without one though. unfortunately alot of people still think a hammer and screwdriver works for that, all it does is makes a huge mess.

I have an Ignition switch and and key out of an S5. It's from my race car. Perfect working condition.

PM me.

If you want it to match you will need to get it rekeyed to your key. Or conversely get your door and trunk locks rekeyed to this one...

I think you are still tired, lol

they tried to break his ignition, it no longer works.
The door locks are fine

So his key is of no assistance in starting the car because the ignition and ignition lock cylinder is busted

dak can take his lock to a locksmith to get a new key made because he has lost his keys

regardless-rocklobster has come to the rescue and offered his ignition switch and cylinder complete with key

misterstyx69 09-14-15 04:30 PM

Hmm..I have a key..but no CAR...

yeah, i missed that it was from his other car, not the one that was broken into. it however isn't quite that simple though, the whole column would have to be taken to the locksmith since the cylinder cannot be removed without the key, or the locksmith would have to go to the car. could try having a key cut from the vin at the dealer, but who knows if that car has the original keys.

j9fd3s 09-14-15 05:04 PM

you guys both missed the part where he already bought a replacement

He probably sold the car by now lol

Lyger thinks im telling busted column guy to take his lock to the locksmith, IM NOT. Busted lock guy needs a new one.

Im Telling DAK (and anyone else readin ) he can take the trunk lock from his parts car and get a key made for HIS ignition, he could then sell that ignition to busted lock guy

But again- rock lobster seems to have what the OP needs. If i were op i would just use both keys thats how it always used to be we always had 2 keys people were fine it.

misterstyx69 09-15-15 12:03 AM

one thing about 2 keys..
You could always lock your car with the key in the ignition(to say warm it up)..BUT still get in.

*note..not recommended for high theft areas or People who forget to take the door key OFF the ring before slamming the door.
