1988 RX7 Won’t Stay Running
5 Attachment(s)
Hello all! Total newbie post here, but I’ve been searching and searching and I’m not confident I’ve solved my problem.
I just purchased a 1988 RX7 this week. Supposedly had been running a few months back before an engine fire (bad pulsation dampener) and had been fixed. The Problem: The engine fires up (see video), but won’t stay running or idling. Attempts at a Solution and Tune Up: 1. New fluids 2. New fuel pump 3. New air filter 4. Checked for Vacuum leaks 5. New battery 6. Jumped the new fuel pump, wiring and pump are good Guesses: 1. Vacuum Leak from BAC or elsewhere - I took the yellow tape off and the car wouldn’t even fire, I added it and it will fire up and run with the throttle being pulsed. So, vacuum leak? 2. Low fuel pressure (hence the new pump, which is good and I can hear running) 3. Something else entirely. Ive attached pictures of every disconnected hose or wire I could find, most leading to dead ends or being overflow hoses. Any help would be appreciated, I’m moving tomorrow so I was hoping to have this actually running! Thanks all! Video (YouTube): |
Bump. Just tested the AFM, voltages seem to be fine.

There should be a hose connection from the yellow taped pipe behind the throttle body, to the yellow taped outlet on the air intake. This feeds air to the bac

The hose down below near the exhaust manifold is for the EGR I believe. Connects to the backpressure tube coming off the cat. Keep it plugged since the EGR probably doesn't work anymore anyway.
