1988 GXL wheel sizing?

So, I'm found a set of wheels I want to get they are Kansei KNP's. A guy I talked to that has them says 17x9 +35 should fit good with no rubbing. Anyone else running this size or recommend something else?

I think they will rub.in the front. Back should be fine. I have 17x8 +35 and I can't say 100% that they wouldn't rub on the front if I didn't have coilovers. I test fit them when I still had the stock front struts but they didn't have tires on them and it was going to be very close to the rim hitting the spring perch. I didn't measure but IIRC it was less1/2 inch.

I've got 17x8 +35 (225/45/17 tires) in the fronts with stock struts and I barely clear, so I don't think 17x9s will work without spacers. I found my wheel spacing that works using fc3spro

edit: added tire size

That FC3SPro guide is great.

I've also tried 17x8 in the front, and even with the perfect offset they still may not clear depending on tire choice. This was with stock springs.

Rolling fenders will get you a little more clearance as well, in case you need to run a spacer to clear the spring.

+1, i did 17x8 with a 32 and 235's back in the day, i had room on the strut side but it was very tight to the fender.
if i had to do it again, 225 tires are a better fit on an 8" wheel, and i might have done 35 or maybe 40 and run a small spacer to get it juuuust right

currently its 17x7 with a 205, not sure about the offset, but 7" is an easy fit
