1988 Convertible (S4) Door Speakers Resistance?
Does anybody know the OEM door speaker resistance?
I am trying to upgrade my broken door speaker. But can't remember the resistance of the speakers - 4 ohms or 8 ohms. |
I don't think it is relevant if you would not be using the OEM speaker and you are "upgrading.
You would need the Speaker resistance to be what the headunit asks for. Then again IF you intend on doing a custom wiring job and have the front setup as a 2 left/2 right setup then you should make sure that the total "parallel resistance" of the 2 speakers on that side does not go below a certain resistance. NOW,if you are just replacing the broken stock one I am fairly sure it is 4 ohms...8 ohm speakers are usually found in home stereos.. |
Stock speakers are 4 ohms. Aftermarket speakers will also be 4 ohms. The only speakers I sell at work that aren't 4 ohms are infinity kappa speakers which are 3 ohms. An aftermarket head unit will be happy as long as the speakers DC resistance does not go below 2.8 ohms, but is pretty much irrelevant since practically anything aftermarket is going to 4 ohms anyway.

Thanks to all the 214 that read my post.
But more thanks to the two of you who replied (misterstyx69 and jjwalker). I guess I should have been a little more clear. I just wanted to replace my broken door speakers. I am keeping my OEM stereo/cd/cassette unit. On ebay I found both 4 ohm and 8 ohm woofer speakers, and couldn't remember the what was the original resistance on the speakers. |
Four should do the job, just swapped my drivers one to a alpine speaker when the OEM one blew. Much clearer now! Good luck on your swap, pics are always appreciated too for others

You really waited?
Dont believe in googling? |
I googled and googled.... with no luck.
So I came where I knew my questions would be answered. |
Since you are leaving the factory radio, I highly recommend installing a 4 channel amp to drive the speakers. The power output of the stock unit is lackluster to say the least.
