1987 RX-7 sunroof position
Regarding my 1987 RX-7:
I need disassemble my sunroof frame to clean and lubricate it. However, someone fiddled with it before I bought the car 20 years ago. I have never owned a new RX-7, so I have a question..... On a new car with a factory installed sunroof motor when the sunroof button is pressed once to raise the roof does the roof move back an inch or so, or does it only lift up with no backward movement? TIA |
the grease you should use is called Shin Etsu, its a Honda part, and you can get it everywhere

Why are you recommending this grease? |
Going back to my original question: When the sunroof open button is pushed the first time on a new and properly installed sunroof assembly is the roof suppose to raise up only, or raise up and move back an inch or so? Thanks

I looked it up. Shin Etsu silicone grease appears to be primarily for use on rubber door seals etc., and not for metal to metal lubrication such as RX-7 sunroof cables and the drive motor gear.
Why are you recommending this grease? |

it works!
Shin Etsu on the guides and rails I presume. What about the cables and drive gear? I'm disassembling the entire sunroof mechanism. I did the motor and gears today. Unpleasant surprise having the brushes on a PC board attached to the gear housing. Was interesting getting the brushes and rotor back in, but I did and it works. Tell me more about this Shin Etsu stuff and if it is suitable for the cables and drive gear. |

it is amazing stuff. for the window regulators, and presumably the sunroof gear i would use regular grease, i like the redline cv2, but i'm sure any good grease is good enough |
