1987 base model

i am looking at a 87 base model, says it wont start when its cold, ne one know wht the problem could be?? body and interior look good. only $400. wht do you guys think??

geargrabber 01-15-05 11:59 AM

is it really cold where you are at?? theres cold-start assist on the car that might be bad.

im not to sure of pricing, its usually depends on where you are at. around these parts that would be a good deal..

another thing is, im not satisfied by my 88 base anymore, i wished i would have spent the extra time to find a good TII.

plus side of the base is that is more reliable, less strain on the cooling system, and you can fill it with 87octane all day long.

if you dont want to buy a TII, look for a GXL... they have better a better rear-end, faster acceleration... and a few other things.. look for the stickey at the top of the 2nd gen forum https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/specifications-what-did-2nd-generation-rx-7-come-w-options-standard-features-249616/, this link will take you to a page with the different options that where available with the different .

you can never do enough research before you buy, and be picky. also you should do a vaccum test on the cooling system.

i found out the hard way that there was a major leak that would dump coolant into the combustion area of the engine everytime i shut her off. the car wouldnt start until the next day, i was constantly adding water, the resorvoir was overfilling, overheating, etc.

good luck!

thanks, anyone else have ne advise on the cold start problem?

vrooom305 01-15-05 12:03 PM

flooded?

geargrabber 01-15-05 12:24 PM

flooded would happen all the time, exp. when warm. doenst sound like the cooling system.

my car barely wants to start here in california when its 45-50 degrees f .

takes me two or three tries to get it to fire up when its cold like that.

so what would i have to do to fix this problem? new injectors and plugs??

geargrabber 01-15-05 06:22 PM

you should test EVERYTHING before you throw parts at it, itll save you money.

theres a way to test every sensor, injectors, afm, pressure sensor, coils, etc..... test test and test again.

youll find the problem, itll be staring you in the face. Dont guess - test.

i would get it regardless of how it starts for that price, N/As are easy to fix. Mine cost $3000 and it had 120k on it

silviandrx7 01-15-05 08:01 PM

Mint87RX7 01-15-05 08:26 PM
