1986 N/A engine swap
Hello all,
I have an '86 FC N/A (S4) that had to take out the engine to rebuild. While that's in the work, I've got a working stock engine from a US S4 GTU to swap into the car. The stock engine run with a distributor and two ignition coils. The engine I've got from the GTU came with the two coil pack. I already "downgraded" the GTU engine to the thermal reactor exhaust manifold (so I could keep my exhaust line) and the intake manifold from the original engine (it's the 6-port manifold with the butterfly valves, also gives a cleaner look to the engine bay). Is it possible and will I have to use the distributor hole to downgrade the engine to distributor for the engine to run or can I adapt the coil packs to the car on the stock ecu/wiring? I would prefer to use the coil packs, not only because they "clean up" the engine bay, but also because they supposedly give a better spark, but I have my doubts if I can get the necessary signals from the original car wiring to the coil packs. I don't mind to splice up some wiring but I've read some diagrams and some threads but I wasn't able to get into any conclusion. Thanks! |
