17" mustang wheels tires: Front fit

1 Attachment(s)
After searching quite a few interesting posts, I still have a question. I have an '88 convertible and a set of 2005 Mustang Wheels. The tires are 235/55/17. Back fits fine, but not so the front. I have stock (aftermarket) struts on which the 235's rub. I'm considering 215/35/17's for the front and would like to know if any has tried this as a way to get the 17" wheels on the front of an FC, or are coil overs the only way to use 17" on the front. If coil overs are the answer, is there a favored brand among listers. Thanks in advance!

They key isn't the mods, it's the tire size. 235/55/17's are way too tall and 215/35/17's are way too short. Most, if not all 225/45/17's will fit just fine, and as a bonus, it's a very common size, so the selection of tires is amazing! That's the right diameter (within a few %), and any wider and you'll likely be rubbing against the spring and/or the fender. I've got Mustang wheels with that size tire and have never had it rub, even at the race track and autocrosses. Some 235/40/17's will fit, but you'll likely need to get coilovers to fit them, and maybe roll the fenders a bit, as most that I've seen are about an inch wider than the 225's and there's barely a finger's width between the spring and the tire on mine.

Why do you guys go with Mustang wheels all the time? Ugh.

I have 17" Tickford rims (off an xr8 falcon) on my s4 the key to getting them to fit is a lack of tyre they were already on the car when i bought it but man i am not looking foward to changing them when they get worn out they are toyo low profiles so bloody expensive ouch *rubs pocket*

I have 215/45/ 17's on my FC... and its perfect...... HOWEVER... I have 17X7.5 wheels up fromt with 38mm offseet

WHat you really need to figure out is what offset those rims have.....

if its anything more than 40mm it aint gonn work cause your not going to get a tire to fit.

You also need to spend about an hour going throught the FC fitment guide in the suspension section
