17" inch rims slowed me down.
 

Last night I was out at the kenedale 1/8th mile track. I normally run my 16's but a friend said lets try his 17's since his car was sick and not running right. I lost .3 in the 1/8th i was running 15.2-15.3@63-64mph

Ok I know its not that fast but its a fairly stock NA.

After swapping the rims on the back he has nittos on them not sure what size. I was running 15.6-15.7@62-63 mph

So obviously Too tall of a tire/rim combination will slow you down as well. So be careful as to what you buy. And if your gonna be drag racing lower profile tires will hurt you as well. Watch any professional dragster they have really tall sidewalls so the side wall will flex and bite the pavement.

if the tires are bigger diameter you will be slower. also the rims are probably heavier. thats why you need the buy the high $$ rims.

bigger wheels=more rotational intertia. thats why drag cars have 12 and 13" wheels, with huge ass tires. it takes less to turn a smaller wheel than a larger one (height wise of course).

I agree with the weight making a difference. What kind of 17 inch rims were they?

Did I read that right???&nbsp You're running 15's in the 1/8TH mile???

Something is seriously wrong, as you should be at least in the 11's or faster in a half drag.&nbsp Do you know what your 60' times are?

haha I didn't even notice that. he must have ment 1/4.

it's all about gearing. putting a bigger tire on would be the same as putting a smaller rear diff ratio in. like a 3.9 instead of a 4.1. which means you won't accel as fast.

Kenndale is a 1/8 mile track.
are you sure your running 15.6 in the 1/8?

SCC did a review over the summer of a new 2001 eclipse GT with different wheel sizes as tests for teh 1/4 mile.

stock 17's...15.7
18's...15.8

i think they also tried out 16's and got maybe a 1/10 lower than with the stock wheels. either way i think they were basically losing a 1/10th of a second each time the diameter increased an inch...maybe 2/10ths
