16x8 wheels
i want to run 225's on my car on all 4 corners, and the only wheels i can seem to find are 7.5" wide. I dont want to go with a taller wheel since ill get pointed for anything after 16" where i race.
225 is almost 9" , so i think 7.5" wide wheels is a strech. When you road race, you want to have a wheel thats about the same width as the tire. any cheap wheels that are 16x8? |

A 7.5 wide wheels will be absolutely fine for a 225 tire.
|
I run 225/50/16s on the stock 16x7 rims. Oh and the FD wheels are 16x8 but you'll need spacers for the front.
|
I run 225/50/16's on my stock TII rims and they are 16x7 I want to run 255's in the back and 245's up front just dont know what offset I should get with that I want 17x8's for street and some 15" welds with slicks for the track with skinnes up in front
|
I want 16x7.5" black steel wheels with 225 up front, 245 in the back. Do they even make these? What offset do i need?
|
stock T2 rims are 16x8, says so on the rim itself.. i just went out to my car and looked.. there not that expensive either.. i payed $150 for mine with 4 new tires and they were delivered to my house.. my buddy ricky has a set of 4 T2 rims with no tires on them for $80 for all 4.. let me know..
Dave |
So stock T2 is 16 x 7 or 16 x 8?
I have 4 bolt, 14 x 5.5 (or 6?) phonedial wheels with 215 tires on it now. |

TII is 16x7. FD is 16x8. and as above need spacers for FD rims. I wouldn't consider at all using spacers on a track car. if they even let you...
|
Ya stock TII rims are 16x7. FD rims are 16x8. For the front of your car you want an offset of like +35 to +38 maybe. I've heard +40 will work depending on the tire and rim width. On the back +40 will work fine, even up to like a +50(because the FD rims are +50 and they fit on the back). Contact ARD T2 on here, he knows exactly what sizes you will need and sells rims.
|
225's fit absolutely perfectly on 7.5" rims. I've got falken azenis sports (225/45's) on 17x7.5" rims, and the sidewall is perfectly vertical (no 'flex in / out at all)

I run 16x8 off of a R32 GT-R. 225/50R16 is the just about right size. 7" rims should not see more than 205's or 215's. It depends on the tire model as they vary. Check those manufacturer specs. Hell, you can put 245's on 7" wide rims. But that's another dumb thing that people do when they think they know what they're doing.
If you want 8" wide rims, get some with an offset of 35. Offset +30 in the back looks perfect, but the same in the front is way too wide unless you have the suspension to make up for it. |
I just looooooooooove enkei rims :)
|
I put the cobra r rims on someones car (very quickly). Shaved a few things off the car too. I think if I spent more than 30s fitting those rims it would look fucking pimp :)

Dude seriously, you're english teachers are rolling over in their graves as we speak. I cant even understand half your post  :(
|
90+ 300ZX wheels are 16x7.5" and actually pretty light, about 17-18lbs each. We used homemade 1/4" spacers up front.
I ran them on my TII with 225/50/16 Kuhmo Victoracers. Here are some pics, I think they looked pretty good for the price:). http://community.webshots.com/album/29829335dZcQQoISEZ Jeff |
drox, How heavy are those cobra r rims?
|
This is all it says concerning weight.
Lightweight castings are carefully finished to the highest standards. |
|
Damn Volks are so expensive :(
|
I'd suggest the buddy club P1 or Kosei K1. We're offerring special pricing on the buddy club wheels. They are very lightweight and come in a beautiful fitment for the FC.
16,7.5 and 8.5 staggered. THis would allow you to dial in a little more predictability with 225/50 up front and 245/45 in the rear. Sick ass setup. If I could afford another set of wheels for autox these would be the ones. Rishie http://store6.yimg.com/I/racerwheel_1718_2219195 |
I've got Oz Moda II 2 peice modular wheels 17x10.5 in the rear and 17x7.5 or 8 in the front, I use 2 spacer plates on each side in the rear to clear them. nothing in the front so i guess that makes them only 17x7.5. They are the best looking wheels i've EVER seen on an FC. But they suck for gas mileage they are heavy as shit compared to the stock rims (currently in winter mode right now, so i've got the stockies on with some blizzaks). I run Nankangs in the rear and they are pretty good. they are probly only 10inches wide so they come inside the wheel a little bit, but potenza's up front. I gotta tell you tho, they are AWESOME for high speed cornering, drifting, all types of ill Sh*t, but when it comes down to laying down thick black strips on the asphault the definatly drag ass. I need to find a better balance. Anyone got some idea's?
|
"Lightweight casting" is a very subjective term. Most 17" rims weigh damn near 25lbs so one that's only 19 is relatively lightweight.
I won't go over a 16" rim unless I can find one that weighs less than 15lbs and costs less than 150 bucks a pop. The slipstreams are my #1 choice right now and will only be displaced if I can find a 16x8 or a 17x8 that look as good and weigh next to nothing for the right price. Heavy rims are probably why all of you are so damn slow. I'd stick with my 12lb 14" phone dials if I could get a 245 tire on them. I break loose at about 20mph from a rolling start when I start getting above 5K. I hit my torque peak and they turn over AND, I have a very functioning LSD.... |

Cuz my friends got some 17x8's off his Cobra laying around. if they do fit, how thick do the spacers need to be? |
245's on the phone dials? Your tires are deformed and not giving you best grip possible. Get some wider wheels so the carcass isn't being flexed. With the proper pressure in them you'll be sticking well enough to not have them break free like they do now.
|
Jerk, I said IF I could fit 245's on the phone dials i would... obviously they wont fit! I have 205's on them right now and the sidewalls are a bit fat as it is. I've tried 3 other types of tires on the back end and all of them break traction at somewhere around 20mph in first. I NEED wider rubber, but don't want the added weight from heavy castings. I refuse to put 17lbs rims on my car. i will rather wait till I can get something light enough to fit my purpose and keep smoking the shit out of all of the dumbasses on this forum who have slow cars that "look nice."
<sorry for the nasty attitude here but the other thread where everyone called me a liar really pisses me off> |
MUSTANG COBRA WHEELS WILL NOT FIT FC3S. Just an FYI. The offsets are totally off. It's the right boltpattern but it'll look like you've extended your axles and should have hydraulics. hehe.
Rishie The Buddy Club or Kosei K1 are only like 15lbs ea. That's a great weight to have. IF you want an even better wheel you could do this: http://www.enkei.co.jp/pro-mat/racing/rpf1-img/rpf1.jpg This wheel is made in a 16,8 and 17,8. I have the 17's on my GTUs. The 17,8 is 15 lbs and based on Enkei's formula one racing design. It is strong. They also make this wheel in a 16,8. This will be your cheapest, lightest, and strongest wheel in my opinion. The 17" we're blowing out for $850.00 shipped. They are normally about $1000.00 shipped with hardware. The 16,8 would be cheaper but it's not in the states yet. These are imported from Japan. |
I like those... How much do you think the 16x8's will run? and how much will it weigh? any idea when it'll come stateside?
I'm looking at either rims and rubber this spring or new fuel management. I plan on slapping some motorcycle tires onto my two enki AL spares for the fronts and getting a pair of 300zx rims for the back to throw slicks on for the track. For running 245's up front will I need to extend my fenders out at all or will they stuff under alright? |
Definitely need to flare those fenders out a bit! I'm about 1/4" away from the coils with 225/45 17's, and I get a bit of fender rub under hard cornering/bumps (it catches the lip...oops!). That's at the stock ride height too (although it's sagged a bit).

Rims from the new mustang GTs fit, I know that.
http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/attach...=&postid=61424 And I believe with no spacer. |
TIRES.COM HAS enkeies for 150 a pop.
|
my god, those RPF1s are gorgeous. not too expensive either, according to ARD-T2.... it looks like I've found my next wheels :)
|
not all enki's are the same weight though...
Although I do care what my car looks like in the end, I still care more about going fast. Heavy rims need not apply. :) |
Ya no spacers or anything for the stang GT rims. Oh and they are 17x8 and can be had for less than $300 for a set. Pretty good if you ask me.
|
what's the weight on those mustang wheels?

wow I actually like the GT rims on the fc. I'll try to find some more detailed specs on it as well.
|
Just do a search for "mustang rims" on the teamfc3s.org forum and you can find some info. Theres a guy named jim on there, thats his car in the pic.
|
well, i just got done compairing the stock cobra wheels to a stock GXL wheel, and everything looks good. Havent tried them on yet cuz it was getting late. My friend says that they are the same size as the 17" GT wheels, so if what ride or die says is true, they should fit fine; the use of a spacer might be required. These wheels sell for less then $400 on the mustang fourm at corral.net
|
Well the guy whose care is in the pic says he didn't use any spacer and runs 225/45/17 and 245/45/17s on them.

I have some 16x8 ARE wheels that would be a good choice. I just have to check the offset of them... |
Ancient thread revival?
|
I saw a nice 16x8 setup running 0 offset and 205 tires... pretty sick lookin
