13B-REW in a 1989 TII
 

I was thinking that I don't want to put the conventional 13B in my 89 TII upon the rebuild session, so I'm thinking of putting the twin turbo 13B-REW in there instead. I know that I have heard of people using the FC tranny with that engine, and the drivetrain is fairly stout, so the only thing that I can think of is the plumbing and the ecu stuff. I just wondered what the opinion on the whole project would be....should I do it? I think yeah.

Obvioulsy I have the change the fuel delivery system too, as well as the fact that the engine mounts would be the same.

Nope the mounts are not the same, it is a quite intence job fitting a Fd engine to a Fc, you would be best geting a 280 bhp 13b-re engine from a Cosmo they are very simalar.

Most people agree the 13B-re-tt engine is the best as the motor mounts are sold online, there's experience installing the engine, the engine bolts up, it's cheaper, and there's not TOO much you need to do on fuel system modifications for stock boost levels.

Plus I've heard the 13b-re is stronger than the 13b-rew.

Where can I find one of the 13B-re's. What is the difference between that and the 13B-REW? Could I run a larger single turbo with very little complications?

Most of the places that sell j-specs TII engines carry them or can get them.

The 13b-re is out of the cosmo sport from Japan and has a better intake manifold than the 13b-t. Yes you can go single with this one as well.

If it were me, I'd either modify my existing TII, go 20B, or just stay with the 13b-re twin turbo setup and be happy :)

That sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the info. By the way, I read earlier, that I though the mounts were the same.....yeah, I typed that a little wrong.

the fd twin turbos and the fd downpipe will fit in an fc chassis. the easiest way to put an fd motor in an fc would be to build it with the fc center housing and oil pan, making it a drop in swap. the fuel system is basically the same, and all the engines will bolt right up to the fc tranny

That's awsome....I guess with a little creative work, you could make it go together. I think that's what I might do.....but then again, I like the earlier ideas too. I guess I'll think about it and let you know.

I have Set of Fc plates with Fd Rotors,tips,housings,stationry gears(inc ft counter weight and window bearings), you have to use the FC plates for mountings and timing etc but it can be done with a bit of playing.

But the Re with a single turbo kit on is the way to go they have bigger ports (stock) than the Rew and tend to handle power better.

Here is a question, Can you port more surface area on a RE intake housings, or would it be about the same as in a REW\13BT when all the porting is done?

The Downpipe BARELY fits!!!!! It hits on the heat shields and really needs to be bent to match the exhaust properlly. You CANNOT build an Fd engine with an FC intermediate housing!!! The ports on the FD engine are about an inch higher than the FC engine. I know this because I have an FD engine in my FC, and I eexplored my options thoroughly. :D

Anyway. There are ways to do it. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you intend to keep the sequential setup. If not it's more worth your time to invest in the cosmo motor. The only thing with that is there's something in the exhaust ports that restricts exhaust flow, which is not good for single turbo setups. But I heard that around the bush. I don't personally know.

I don't want to try to put a 20B in my TII....while I like the engine itself....I'm looking for someting even more odd to put in there. Everyone knows about the 20B, but not many are savy on the ways of the Jspec

Well....I've read lots about people putting the 13B-re engine in FC's so it's really not that odd. Tell you the truth I'm the only person I know of with an FD engine in an FC (though there were a couple who had an FD intake plenum on their FC engines, but that's different). If there is anyone else with an FD engine in their FC I invite you to pipe up and maybe we can compare notes :-)
