Usually nothing can be decoded from the vin other than model year, engine type (turbo or non turbo), and vehicle serial number. All other information would have been available from Mazda such as trim level, options, recalls, warranty repair, and original purchase date.

there is nothing to extract that you don't already know, FC3S is a coupe, FC3C is a vert. 1xx,xxx is S4 and 2xx,xxx is S5.

There is no decoder, because it's not a VIN and not a code. It's a chassis ID. It reveals nothing about the grade or level of the car. This information can only be obtained by interrogating Mazda's internal records for the specific car, if such a thing still exists. I and others have been able to get Mazda Japan verify the matching engine number for my 1st gen's chassis number but that's the only info they have. They didn't record colour, transmission etc.

To be a VIN, it has be a 17 digit number with each character position have a defined attribute and only the last 6 digits representing the chassis serial number. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicl...ication_number

Two words: build sheet.

I do those :D

FC3S-242143
Built on 3/28/1991
Model: Savanna RX-7
MSC Code F063-311
Trim: GT-X
PZ (Brilliant Black) paint
FD8 (Black) interior (part number suffix 02)
STB Seats
5-speed transmission
Hard suspension
Power Steering
No ABS
4 seats
Viscous LSD

There are two different groups for the GT-X. 0200 is this one, 0213/0263 is the higher spec ones with CD Player. It is listed in the last column (Special Information)
I believe the E in E-FC3S refers to the production line. E being what eventually became eFini, as understood with the S6 FD. S7 FDs began with the prefix "GF", which I presume would be short for General Factory or something similar. This most likely goes into the Brand Diversification Plan (eFini, Autozam, Eunos and so on). To know for certain, I'd have to see the chassis number plates (riveted to the firewall) of a few different cars like a Eunos Cosmo, Autozam AZ-1, eFini MPV and so on

Japanese vin # are more like IDs for the cars and wont tell you the history or the "carfax"

I have the dealers' database for Japan and I taught myself the language. Turns out there's a few linguistic errors in it that only result in gibberish to the untrained eye. It's not big stuff, but a contraction combined with a mistranslation (missing a syllable) with a can make it hard to understand if a car has a certain option or not. Thankfully, it's only been in one location so far.

Hey cool!

I have sent you a PM with mine if you dont mind checking it out for me

Hi akagis_white_comet,
The information you gave is what I was looking for. Just wanted to know how much of it is still original.

Thanks for your reply.
