1-piston to 4-piston caliper upgrade + brake upgrade + caliper rebuild =]

Well so i have had my fc fro about 2 years now
we have had its bonding moments
and moments where i just plain hate it
but this is just an example of when we bond lol enjoy

so first of all i have never changed brakes on my car before
let alone every changed brakes in the first place

Gabriel82 01-31-09 10:24 PM

okay here is the before

okay here are a picture of my calipers

http://i469.photobucket.com/albums/r...icture2686.jpg

then here are my rotors
as you can see they were past due( well the rear ones but hey go all out and be satisfied in the end)

Gabriel82 01-31-09 10:25 PM

the 4 piston

so i got the 4 piston calipers form a donor car
i painted them
but tried to clean them with brake cleaner
not a good idea so that goes in my things not to do or to watch out for

Gabriel82 01-31-09 10:27 PM

next

so i tried out this place called 88rotors
ordered slotted rotors and pads from them
better than what i had before
and then i sent the calipers as cores to get freshly rebuilt ones (this is a good thing because i have warranty and anything goes wrong with the calipers its their behind)

time to install everything

so it was time to get rid of the old
and bring in the new and install them
along with bleeding the lines and getting rid of all the air in the system

the rear

I think thats the stupidest shit I've heard all day. And you weren't even trying to be funny...:icon_no2:

Gabriel82 01-31-09 10:38 PM

hahaha yeah it feels good
way better than the scratching sound it had because the rotors were just done and far from being resurfaced
i haven't done the SS brake lines yet
its in the process
it came out pretty good for an 18 year old first year college student and the help of my brother for bleeding the lines and holding tools or switching off we got down

thanks for checking out my posts =] appreciate it

Gabriel82 02-01-09 02:13 AM

people do it, people on this forum dont usually think outside the box like that. if i do need to rebuild mine.. ill go fd calipers purely for the cosmetic appearance behind my big volk rims :)

quote from another forum

As for the FD rotors on the FC... Lots of people ask why do such a thing when they hold the same pad... The FC ones are lighter, but after struggling with a 2 page story in Japanese in Hyperev, I have learned that the FD calipers are much stronger than the fc calipers, they don't flex into a v shape as much apparently, the number thrown around was 30% more rigid...So the little gain in weight is worth something....

I actually do like the bigger Mazda logo on the FD calipers XD

Gabriel82 02-01-09 02:35 PM

FD calipers

i have never seen a pair of FD calipers
so i don't really know the big difference between both of them
besides the FD having 4 all around? do they have 4 all around?
