[VIDEO] S5 Turbo JDM swap, very low rough idle, no power

Hey guys so I finally finished my turbo swap, the engine has good compression, I have good spark, checked all my vacuum lines, and I am stumped at why this thing doesn't want to run correctly. Also I put some fuel injector cleaner in with the fuel to make sure that's not a problem but that hasn't helped much yet. I am running out of things to check for so I'm hoping somebody can tell by this video what might be causing the problem. The reason the engine sounds loud is because I'm running on only a 3" downpipe right now. Help me get this thing back on the road!

also, this time that I started it was the first time that it actually held an idle. before this time (the engine wasn't warmed up) I had to give it some gas to keep the engine running and when the throttle was closed it would die, but as you can see it now idles just super low and rough as freak as you can tell by the engine shakeage.

oh yeah and I test drove it around the block. i have a twin plate orc clutch, and the engine barely had enough power to transfer the weight to it... once i actually got it in gear, it had very little power.

It's only running on one rotor....

Which PCM are you using?

mothdawg 06-11-11 11:22 PM

what's pcm?

dcrews 06-11-11 11:23 PM

erm.. ecm.. sorry.. been away from the rotary scene for a while

cone_crushr 06-11-11 11:25 PM

Have you verified the timing?

mothdawg 06-11-11 11:25 PM

ecu i'm running the jspec turbo one. n370 i believe but i'm not at home right now.

nope

JSPEC ECU N374
USDM ECU N370

Also, I dont suggest driving it with only a downpipe. Turbo will spool up super fast with zero back pressure and will boost well past stock boost.. You will pop the engine for sure

mothdawg 06-11-11 11:40 PM

Will I still blow it if i have a fuel cut defender installed?

And yeah then I'm running n374 with jspec wiring.

You may need a Modded S5 NA harness and USDM N370 ecu..

Jspec Harness and N374 dont always work in USDM chassis.

Some have success with the JDM harness and ecu, some dont.. Not sure why, not much help when it comes to wiring...

mothdawg 06-11-11 11:56 PM

Can I first try plugging my harness into an n370? I cut my s5 na harness when removing it haha whoops.

SirCygnus 06-12-11 05:28 PM

might as well just go straight stand alone.

mothdawg 06-12-11 07:09 PM

Where is there good info on stand alone? I know next to nothing about wiring/ecu stuff so I'm learning as I do this haha. I'll start searching now too and check it out. I'd like to get the car running by this weekend and have all day tomorrow and Tuesday to work on it so whatever would be best. This is currently a daily/drift car but will eventually be strictly a drift car

SirCygnus 06-12-11 09:01 PM

um... daily /drift car do not go hand in hand.

mothdawg 06-12-11 09:59 PM

lol well let's not get on that topic right now i'm worried about getting it started :)

but basically i will drive it on the street until it's too modded to.

i think i'm going to try and get my hands on an n370 and s5 na harness that seems like the easiest and quickest route right now unless anyone wants to convince me otherwise. i'll update this with the results. thanks for all the advice!

Sorry to say it but it may be blown pull spark plugs and get a little mirror and check through the spark plug holes and turn the crank pully by hand. I blew my S5 swap from lack of FCD! and that was what happen to mine runnin on one rotor!!! Or check if both coils are firing...

mothdawg 06-13-11 08:55 PM

Well I checked compression before the motor was installed and it was good both rotors were good. So unless I blew one starting it or something. I haven't revd it past 3k since it's been installed so I doubt it's blown but i know it's a possibility

This was mine after it blew the apex seal on the front rotor. So also check if injectors or good get them cleaned if all apex seals are in-tact and your compression is good.
