*help*oil Leak
 

help i have a oil leak, i think its from my oil cooler, my friend said, but he doesnt know how to fix it, it only leaks when i start up my car, but when its off it doesnt leak, and i know rx-7 takes alot of oil, someone told me 1 quart for 1000 miles im guessin, and i refill it, but can someone help me fix that oil leak? if its from the oil cooler?

Sorry, I can't physically help you fix it.

Based on my translation and interpretation of what you are trying to say, I'd look at your oil cooler lines first-they can fail, and then on all connections and fittings to ensure they are torqued properly, and lastly, replace the oil cooler if it is indead damaged and leaking.

Not sure what you mean by "takes a lot of oil, 1 quart for 1,000 miles" The oil capacity is in the FSM and I typically put in 5 quarts into the sump on each oil change.

The RX7 does consume oil when running but that means the oil is injected into the engine, not injected on the pavement when it is running, e.g. your oil leak.

Yes it only leaks when its running b/c of the presure. If it is indeed the oil cooler and not a line then you buy a new oil cooler and replace it. Thows banjo bolts on the cooler are ushaly on there very tight so do not use a cresent wrench. It is likly a line is leaking thow. Buy steal lines from cork sport www.corksport.com for $120.00 and a cooler where ever you like uhaly $50.

Yes they burn oil naturaly ruffly 1 quort per 1000 miles depending on how hard you drive it.

yes, check the oil cooler lines. they should be easy to see from above with a flashlight, or even easier from the bottom (if you remove -or don't have- the splash guard underneath your engine). Oil may actually be seeping right through the walls of the lines (there's 2 lines) or it could be a fitting at the cooler or at the engine. If it is the lines, you can reuse the fittings and just get some new hose for them. My dad actually bought the parts when I did mine but we used some hose and clamps and it was dirt cheap, been on there most of a year now... not a drop.
