$250, two choices, please help

So, I am unsure what to buy.

I will have $250 to spend here in a month or two, and I can't decide if I should buy the racingbeat headers, or an AEM UEGO.

I currently have a RB downpipe and presilencer. At the time of buying, I didn't know that headers completely bypass the need for a downpipe and go to the presilencer.

So, what would I see more gains from? the headers, or a UEGO? The UEGO is gauge and sensor.

I do have a working SAFC-II, though not tuned because I don't have a dyno in my garage, and haven't had the time to get to a dyno.

Mods coming this month are: S5 VDI system (whole intake), electronically actuated, and putting my 5th and 6th sleeves back in. The 5&6 ports are going to be electronically actuated using summitracing RPM switch.

Thanks guys.

save for tii swap :) ...just kidding. but reading your sig, what kind of tires do you have?? thought of saving up for those?

Rx7TyreBurna 03-17-07 12:07 PM

Just bought some really nice new ones. Can't think of what they are, but they were $200 each.

It rains a ton here where I am at, so they are summer and rain tires. They hold really well.

Between the two, what would you say? I am going for all N/A right now. I am going for boost later, and not on my FC. I am either going to get an MKIV Supra, or an FD.

Supra for raw insane horsepower, FD for handling, but lack of power. Haven't decided.

When you get the header, sell me the DP and pre-silencer.:)

Brakes (lines/pads/new high-temp fluid...4-piston calipers/vented rears, if you don't have them...rotors if necessary), chassis reinforcement (upper and lower front arm bars).

Competition transmission, engine, and rear different front mount (even if it's not broken yet... it will be eventually :P )... of course, you couldn't do all of that for 250..haha

imo you are at a stage in your cars life that a wideband would help alot if u are ready to ACTUALLY tune the car.. if u are getting it just for diagnosis then buy the header... the one thing about getting the wideband now and the header later is when u buy the header u can have it drilled and a new spot welded on to plug your wideband into so u can run the wideband and the stock o2 for the computer

The Header will give the car more Spirit. The Wideband,Well it would be just there for "Show" until you got more under the Hood!.So I say go for the Header.Your car will Sound better and Trust me,you Will love the sound!.You can always get a Gauge when you Put an "upgraded" powerplant under the hood and Have to monitor it's "Vitals".

I mostly wanted the wideband to try and tune the SAFC-II.

I heard the cars run really lean, and a properly tuned FC from stock can gain approx. 10 HP if tune correctly. I am getting all my VDI and aux stuff hooked into electronics so that I can tune the RPM on them. Figured with all that stuff opening and closing, it would be cool to be able to tune the fuel.

Headers, do they flow much better then the stock exhaust manifold? Also, will it connect to the RB pre-silencer I have? I would just remove the downpipe and put the header in right?

I want to do an aggressive street port, but there is only 25k miles on this rebuild motor, and I don't know how much I would have to replace, and how much it would cost in seals, etc for a port job.

To the guy who said I should get better brakes, etc. It came stock with the 4 piston calipers, vented discs, etc. All new pads, and rotors all around, and very very good fluid. As for the suspension stuff, I really want the mazdatrix strut-tower bar with torque brace. But, I am done with doing the suspension stuff for right now, it handles way better then I am going to be pushing it right now. I am really interested in being able to come out of corners quicker. Like most other RX-7's, I have lack of power coming out of corners, but I can dive into them pretty quick.

Well, thanks guys, any other suggestions?

You can butt tune the SAFC on N/A cars. Get the header.

Valkyrie 03-17-07 10:52 PM

Yeah... if you want a bit of extra NA power, go for the header... it won't necessarily give you more power "out of corners" (mid-end power), but it'll probably give you a bit more kick on the high end...

You can always go to a shop with a dyno, who will probably have a tailpipe wideband for tuning cars that don't have wideband bungs...

Rx7TyreBurna 03-17-07 11:29 PM

I probably will go with the headers for right now, until I can get enough money to get an aggressive street port done, and then I will get the wideband.

I would really really really like a standalone, but, I am an FC owner... I can't afford that... :). I think if I had the 1.5k-2.0k for a nice standalone, I would probably just buy a turbo motor. :)

I'de get the wide-band and go from there. A header won't make much of a difference without a streetport or a tune. You already have the downpipe and presilencer which is good enough for now.

Get the tune and then save up for the street-port, when you have that done, go buy a used(or new, whichever) header. Then you'd actually see some real gains from it.

Reason I said header.,Is because there really Isn't anything THERE to tune Yet(stock engine,No mods right?).Yes,the header will Flow better than the Stock exhaust manifold, and it is Lighter too.You take the Manifold off and put the header on,and Attach it to the RB presilencer..done!..OH,you can tune an SAFCII without the Dyno.At least a Whole "boatload"(nothing being implied here) of members have done the same thing. Not all of the Owners of an FC are rich enough to put their Car onto a Dyno to tune a car, that is worth Maybe what it costs for the Dyno session!..Good luck to you anyhow.

cdaleracer669 03-18-07 10:25 PM

i would get a set of headers first
