Waxing nostalgic for 13 years ago

I just realized that I have been on this forum and a rotarty owner since April 2001 so it has been 13 years. Time has flown by since I fists saw a dusty, uncared for black FC in Clovis, NM with a for sale sign in the window. I believe he wanted $1,300 and I think I paid about $1,100 as I wanted a car for autocrossing and I was a young Airman with not a lot of money. I paid him $550 up front and $550 a month later. Lots of busted knukles and heartbreak with that car but she was my first love.

This was taken at an autocross meet in West Texas.

And later when she was turbocharged and I learned that BMWs make better DD and road trip cars.

Like most exes, I loved and hated her.

Finally, after being hit by a truck and then blowing the transmission, my wife at the time had enough and made me sell her back in 2005. I have since owned an FD and now I have graduated into an FB--but you never forget your first.

Sorry, waxing nostalgic today.

Perhaps one day. I may actually get another FD if the right opportunity arises. Hard to convince the wife that I need multiple rotaries. She let me buy a '13 M3 last year after all so there is only so far I can push it. Plus, I hardly have time for my one rotary.

She does help me (occasionally) to work on the FB and goes with me to track days etc so I can't complain.

that would be a bit of a kick to the nuts, going from an FD to an FB(sorry FB guys :) ).

True...I think the new FB owner would be shocked at the upgrade in reliability and fuel economy. :D

simpler is sometimes better, but the mushy suspension/steering feel would be my first point to address.

When you have a 400hp FB with a track setup suspension, manual steering rack, race seats, 6-point harness, and OS Giken LSD, TII breaks among other things, my single turbo R1 with heater/AC a sound system (besides a straight pipe) was very civilian and civilized compared to my FB.

Besides, look at that baby:

nice setup, i figured you already had the itch for something more where a relatively stock 12a would feel like a hamster running the wheel. ;)

400 in an FB is more like 460ish in the FC/FDs as well, since it's already lighter. in fact many who would drive it would say it's too much.. lol

Well, to be fair it did come stock with a 13b. It was great on the corners as the previous owner had it set up for auto-X. However, when running doing laps on tracks like Pocono, I had a hard time keeping ahead of Miatas on the straights.

I did have too much power for the stock LSD, rear control arms and tires, that's why I ended up going WB and upgrading the LSD and control arms (after bending one on a hard launch).

Thing corners like it is on rails now especially with the manual rack up front. I actually blew my engine on a long curve on the track as my setup caused oil starvation. Now I run an Accusump to take car of that issue.

Have I derailed my own thread?

nostalgia is a good thing but in the end the memories come from where you had the most enjoyment and that might be obvious.
