Vert!! Why did I go NA!?!?!!

Hey all, I got a great deal on a 91 vert with no wheels that wouldn't start. This should be fun...

Drove damn near Mexico to get this thing. The price was right and there are a few goodies. The seller seemed like a cool guy, but I could tell his patients has run out for this car... LOL

My plan is to get her up to DD status; but if I run into any serious motor issues, you can expect a full part out. In the FS pics, the body looked nice, but there were a few things that tipped me off that she needed some polishing. The S4 front bumper for one...

Here is kinda what I expected, minus the wheels (He told me there were none on the car)

Got these from a local V8 T2 guy.

Here she is

There are some minor body issues that make her look a little beat up. Nothing major tho.

I suspect cut springs... this thing sits WAY too low up front.

The S4 front bumper is a pretty obvious patch up. The bumper is in great shape, but doesn't match up. Luckily,I have a S5 bumper and fenders at my disposal.

The hood is really beat up. There is a ton of hail damage and the vent shroud is busted. I don't really want to buy another one but if I get her going strong, I'll think about it.

Interior is really decent. The seats are the worst part (like usual). But it's mostly all there. I'll need the steering colum surround, and a radio. Other than that, I have some minor wiring to do.

Does anyone know what exhaust this is? It looks pretty slick, but I've never seen it

Finally, what you've all been waiting for.I've already noticed that there is no EGR fuse, and there is a huge vacuum leak after the Mass Air Flow Sensor. I think I can get her running after fixing those issues and flushing the fluids. The seller tried to start her for me but no dice. I heard both rotors pulsing alright as it cranked... then I noticed there was no EGR fuse so it wasn't gonna start.

I've NEVER been an NA fan AT ALL. And I've never really cared for verts all that much. But now that I have this one, it's kinda grown on me a bit. Mostly because I can imagine the wind in my hair and no top as I cruise.... slowly albeit...

NO WAY. I've already got a beast of a T2. This car is DD style, that's it. There is NO WAY I will make this thing a money pit. I will however, sell it to you so you can explore those ambitions...

cool, thanks. I figured worst case senerio, I part it out if the engine if trash and still make some $$

Ideally, I'd want to get her running then DD her for a while, as I fix up the cosmetic issues.

Ya'll know the best way to increase gas mileage on NAs?

91's are hard to find. I would hold on to that for a little while. Good price though.

Are all the moldings switched or is it just the S4 front bumper? Either way I think It'll be sweet man, nice pickup.

thanks guys. its a S5, but someone apparently stole the front bumper at some point. The guy I got it from put the S4 bumper on. He spray painted that and the T2 hood.

The S5 moldings are all there and intact.

dont part it out, with a few odds and ends you can sell it all at once as a running car to someone for at least $2800, clean it up even more and you can get $3500.

I have sold my share of verts, trust me on this one.

Once you get it running, you'll get addicted to driving with the top down. If you're in AZ, then you can get away with it any time of the year like I do .

What would it have to look like to pull 3500?
I am assuming the more stock the better?

My plans are to fix the driver side fender, put the proper S5 bumper (already have both) and get a nice T2 hood, this one is pretty bad up close.

I want to get better seats, or re-upholsterer these.

Clean the engine bay

Get the stock radio

Vert Rims

I'm already looking forward to cruising with the top down!!

your plan sounds good, a stock convertible sells to a mature person who can appreciate a good clean car.
Fix the odds and ends, cosmetics, and detal the crap out of it.
