Thinking of selling
So I'm thinking of selling my rx-7 to fund school and I'm totally lost on how I should price the thing.
1987 NA originally with the following upgrades / changes 91 Turbo motor swap Haltech E6X Custom FMIC Monza BOV Racingbeat Turboback exhaust A few extra gauges and stereo / speakers as well. Any thoughts? I hate to get rid of it but I won't be able to afford insurance, gas and storage while I'm at school.. |
My advice, part it out.
|
I agree with Macz. My last car had tons of mods to it, but I sold the whole car. I now wish I would have parted it out or at least taken a bunch of stuff out of it.
|
So you guys figure it's worth more as a part out? I guess beyond enthusiasts no body really wants these any more eh? Especially with the gas prices doing their thing...
|
why part out a perfectly good running car? sure you'll make more money but a true RX-7 enthusiest would never think of that..
|
I'll take it off your hands for the price of say..........on the house?
|
never post these type of threads on here.. most will say the cars are not worth much =(
just go on craigslist/autotrader/cars.com and look at simular cars and judge for yourself.. |

just go on craigslist/autotrader/cars.com and look at simular cars and judge for yourself.. I agree with everyone else. The price these cars are going for these days is just ridiculous. Everyone is really scared to death of rotary engines, or rather doing the work to obtain the knowledge to own and maintain one whether they're stock or modified. Alex Rodriguez just sold his mint S5 TII with just about everything replaced and upgraded to max out the stock turbo with a rebuilt engine for less than $4000. 93rx74lyfe had trouble selling his mint S5 TII microtech/BNR3/340whp for $5000 and ended up parting it out. I have lost all hope, its really sad to have to part out a car but then the alternative could be selling it to some ricer that wrecks it or rices it out. My way of thinking now is if it has one of the following: 1. Rebuild 2. Standalone 3. Turbo upgrade (brand name) 4. Coilovers Part the thing out unless you really don't have the workplace and seriously can't afford to hold on to it. |
Thanks for the input guys. I'll probably give it a go selling it whole but it'll take a real rx-7 lover to overlook the quirks that these things develop.

Sadly, parting out is really the only way to go if you want to get the most out of it. But I hate seeing full running cars get parted out. I'd try sellingit as a whole first. Just don't sell it to a ricer dorifto fanboi .
|
I would try selling it for a while, then part if you have to... Around here I have never had to resort to parting out a perfectly good running car.. The market is good around here, and our `race` scene is still thriving.

Keep in mind that if you do decide to part the car you'll be spending a ton of time answering questions, monitoring the thread and then (with luck)unbolting, packing up and shipping parts. If all goes well, everybody is happy and nothing gets lost/damaged in transit...but don't count on it.
Finally, after all the cherry stuff has been picked, you have a shell to dispose of. What's your time worth and how much energy are you willing to invest? Selling the car as parts may- emphasis on "may"- result in a larger jackpot, but at what cost and timeframe? Selling it as a running car is a one shot deal. |
