Speaker/Sub Advice!? + Need Help

Hey guys,

The car is a 1987 FC. There are no door speakers? From what i can see there are only speakers in dash and 2 in the rear strut towers. I put in a nice sony deck and hooked up some small speakers in the rear but when i turn up the volume about 50% the cd player shuts right down and powers back up? Why would it be doing this? Because the speakers are too small for the amount of power being put out?

On a side note.. Im wondering if you guys can post some pics or ideas of a speaker set up i should get. Its boxing day tomorrow so i want to pick up some speakers, subs and an amp. Does anyone have the stock speakers size for the rear so i can pick them up tomorrow?

THANKS GUYS

Theres an audio section. Try that first.

I can get my system to shut down when I bass really hard, but only then. Take one of the old speakers out and take it with you when you go in to get new ones. I run a 400W amp with one single unported 10" sub and it hits very hard.

where did you grab your ACC and +12v from? it's possible you aren't actually getting +12v, so when the CD player is turned up and the voltage requirements go up, you may not be suppling if with the full 12v (which should be more like 14.4v iirc) it needs to do it's job. therefore the CD player gets overworked and shuts off.

i had a buddy do something similar when wiring up an amp in his toyota corona. if you had the gain down low it would be ok, just quiet. once you turned it past a certain point one heavy bass hit would shut it down.

What alternator are you running and how does your setup affect the electrical system on your car?

I am running the stock S4 alternator. I don't notice anything unless it's night and I am hitting some good bass with the headlights on, then when it hits you notice a very slight dimming. I do have my fuel pump rewired though so no worry of it losing voltage when bassing.

Im running the stock alternator.. Im not sure where the 12V is grabbed from.. i didnt wire the stereo. The PO did :S I guess ill have to take it apart and figure it out.. Could it be that there was too much power being put out to the smaller 5inch speakers ( not stock ) and would shut down the stereo and power back up?

The electrical system - Umm.. power windows are extremly slow to raise and voltage drops when i turn the steering wheel
