Some people frustrate me

So yesterday I was in the parking lot of the local Recreation Center, standing outside my FC. Well, these two guys ("A" and "B", 19 and 18 years old respectively) I was playing basketball with earlier come up to me and the conversation goes something like this:

A: Let's race (these were his first words)
Me: No thanks, I don't race.
B: Yeah, I'll race you with my bimmer.
Me; No thanks, I was gonna give my friend a ride just around here to show him my car (he came down from LA to visit, and hasn't seen my car yet) but there's a cop station 500 feet from here... I don't think it's a good idea.
B: I know a nice road that's completely empty and it's a long stretch.
Me: Well, it's probably not too dangerous but in any case, my car's not a drag car...
B: Come on there's twists and turns
Me: No thanks, that's tempting but... I have too much to lose
A: Ok let me race your car and I'll show you how to drive
Me: Wait what happened to your last car? You had an Evo right?
A: Yeah, it's impounded because I got caught going 165mph.
Me: Yeah... I'm not gonna race.

<5 mins goes by>
A: What kinda engine does it have in it?
Me: A Wankel rotary engine.
A: No, like what's the name of the engine. Like, 42G or 32A (making these engine names up, i forget exactly what he said)
Me: 13B
A: Ok there you go (clearly this guy knows nothing of rotary engines...)
<a few mins goes by>
B: You have about this much space between the fan and the engine right? <makes a distance of approx a foot with his hands>
Me: Yeah
B: You should drop another engine in there
Me: Um... no.
B: Why not?
Me: Because one of the only reasons I got this car was because of the engine.. it's a rotary engine. If I wanted anything else I'd get another car.
A + B: Rotary engines suck
Me: They don't suck, and you don't know anything about them
B: It's all about Inline 6
A: Boxer engines for the win. Or flat 4.
Me: Nah rotary engines are kickass.
<A and B laugh. They say some more ignorant things... I'll spare you the details>

B: Nah it's a sick car. Nice wheels.
Me: Yeah, they're BBS Sterns, made in the '90s in Japan
B: What kind of BBS, like.. LM?
Me: No, they're BBS Sterns
B: Are they real BBS wheels?
Me: Yeah.

B: Well it's a sick car, but you should make this chrome (pointing at the Mazda RX-7 words on the back)
Me: Nah, I think it's fine the way it is.
A: What's FC3S?
<The few other people that gathered around chuckled>
Me: It's my car.

B: These make for sick drift cars.
Me: I suppose they do, but they were never designed to drift. If you want to drift, go get an S13 or S15.
B: No you're wrong! RX-7s are drift cars. 240sx, 86, rx-7s, and 350Z's are drift cars.
A: Yeah man, 350z's are sick drift cars
Me: Ok sure, but don't talk to me about drifting or any shit you see in car movies like Fast and the Furious (they just made a reference to Tokyo Drift and the Veilside FD in it)
A: Man let me show you how to drive your car. What's the fastest you've done in it?
Me: Well I've only gone 130...
A: Do you know what double clutching is?
Me: Yeah, it's when you kick in the clutch, put it in neutral, let it out, then kick it in again and shift up a gear (as if I don't know what double clutching is... my synchro is bad so I double clutch every time I go into 5th).
A: <looks at B, starts laughing> Sure buddy...
Me: (Thinking he was referring to heel-toe) Ok so then what, do you mean when you brake and kick the clutch in, rev match, and down shift?
A: <doesn't answer... but has that look on his face as if he pitied me for not knowing anything>
Me: Ok, I'm heading back in to the gym. Later.

The Cliff notes: Some people frustrate me.

Saavedro88 03-08-08 10:19 PM

Cliff's notes: Some people should only drive Geo's...

Lol... Sucks man. I used to get crap like that ALL the time with my Supra... Nobody's seen the 7 yet, but I can't wait for the Ricer Flak...

Way to hold your own man... Props...

R3N5LOW 03-08-08 10:23 PM

he makes me want to drop kick a fetus

noobsss

younG_Gunner 03-08-08 10:31 PM

I don't think I would have even kept the conversation going on much longer after he said, "Let ME show YOU how to drive YOUR car".

KhanArtisT 03-08-08 11:45 PM

LOL, they sound like a bunch of idiots. Cars and learning about them goes a long way man, even after extensive researching I still learn random shit everyday. Those kids sound like they just finished watching FNF...You have to learn to ignore people that are at a far lower level than you. People like that are the reason I don't socialize with other people about my car or even RX-7s in general. Don't try to be friendly, keep a straight face and say, "no, I'll be alright" and walk away.

But damn, a Bimmer? I would've taken the challenge :)

JYM 03-09-08 03:40 AM

I won't say that I'm an angel on the streets... but I try to observe the speed limits... never any reckless swerving or lane changing... full stop at stop signs.

I've just really come to experience first hand all the stuff that can happen on the streets, and I've become convinced it's a much better alternative to do it at the track (even if it means a 100 mile drive to get there).

I've been acquainted with person A for a few years (barely see him or talk to him) and person B was a stranger to me... so I can't vouch for what he will do behind the wheel. If I don't cause an accident, I don't want it to be on my conscience that I agreed to a race that DID cause an accident.

MaczPayne 03-09-08 03:57 AM

Heh, I get alot of that bullshit too.

Some dude the other day just straight up told me that Mazda made non-turbo FD's. He wouldn't budge from that conviction even if I proved it to him. I told him, "Well then, I guess I don't know shit about rotaries."

I'll explain things to people, but when they start acting like fools, I just walk away.

J.MurdaFCs3 03-09-08 04:27 AM

"You should drop another engine in there
Me: Um... no.
B: Why not?
Me: Because one of the only reasons I got this car was because of the engine.. it's a rotary engine. If I wanted anything else I'd get another car.
A + B: Rotary engines suck"

I would have ended it right there. Rotary's are hands down the best for racing or street.

Mike0071 03-09-08 04:30 AM

I'm glad the people I hang out with respect the rotary, especially since two of my friends own one. The other three own their regular piston cars, but they still respect, because they know what these cars can do...

rx7fan1903 03-09-08 10:46 AM

Those guys are crazy stupid....

JYM 03-09-08 05:48 PM

I mean I could see where these guys are coming from, we would all like to think that the engine we have in our car is the best. The guy who thought that Inline 6's are the best... guess what? He has one in his Bimmer. And the guy who says it's all about straight 4s... he has one in his Evo 9 MR. I guess I'd be guilty of the same thing in thinking rotaries are better than pistons.

However, perhaps the difference between them and I is that I acknowledge where the rotary has shortcomings, whereas they are just completely ignorant. I also know in what applications rotaries tend to excel at, and where it may be better to use a piston alternative. They just don't know squat about the rotary. But then again, this is nothing knew...

Uhh, I think the FD does have a non-turbo model. Maybe not in America or the east coast, but I'm pretty sure there is an N/A FD. Otherwise, why the fuck would anyone ever remove the turbos off of an OEM turbo'ed non tracked car?

Um... No I would be ready to bet my car that the only FD's ever made from the factory came with a twin-turbo setup. Sure someone could theoretically remove the turbos and run it N/A... but the problem is the guy said it came from the factory as N/A. Tell me you aren't that guy Maxpayne was talking about?

SouthSideSlider 03-10-08 12:22 AM

some people diserve a swift kick to the nuts.

There was no FD that came out of the factory N/A.

leftcoastdrifter 03-10-08 01:36 AM

people like that are dumbasses, props for holding back on the temptation to stomp a bimmer, don't know that i wouldn't have jumped on the chance to take one in the corners :)

next time just talk way over their heads when they say the rotary sucks. that's what i do, all different port combos, compression ratios, 6 port actuators, omp, or split spark plug timing. they'll just look hella stupid and feel that way too.

finishline 03-10-08 02:30 AM

maybe i should trade my FC for an S13 so i can drive a real drift car...

magus2222 03-10-08 03:22 AM

not to thread jack. i ran accross a guy from a friend of mine finding 2 fd's in a dudes driveway being worked on. FD's, 1 being a genuine enfini model straight up said to me "i love FD's, but rotaries are shit, i love the lsx engines, torque is the way to go......."
i tried SO hard to be nice to him...........
its hard sometimes though

peace

carbonRX 03-12-08 01:00 AM

i hate to sound like a noob but can anyone explain to me better exactly what heel-toe and double clutching are.... i learned stick on my rx-7 soooo not really an expert obviously.

SouthSideSlider 03-12-08 01:04 AM

double clutcing is explained in the OPs conversation heel toe means you use the toe of you right foot to brake while the heal pushes on the gas to keep RPMs up and place you in optimum revs for the corner.

magus2222 03-12-08 01:04 AM

how does that relate to this thread?
and look it up on youtube

peace

carbonRX 03-12-08 01:19 AM

damn those videos make me think i need to go to driving school holy SH*T, i always just rev up in gear a little before i upshift so that when the rev's drop it still matches the tranny and slides in real fast. with the rotary engine it must be easier because it revs so fast. i totally understand heel-toe though.

Ryan8 03-12-08 01:27 AM

If thats how the story really went, then all i can say is patience is a virtue. well i gues tolerance is in this case.:icon_tup:
