So who's going with Historical Plates in 2012?
 

So the 1987 Mazda Rx-7's are now Historical anyone switching over to Historical Plates other than me. This also mean's no more emission check's for me over here in Cleveland, Ohio so I'm super excited. Anyone care to share? :cool:

Sheriff pulled me over last night for defective exhaust and slightly expired tabs(Jan 17th)... told me to get some classic plates and i won't have to worry about either. Went to high school with his little brother and he let me off with a written warning.

So its 87 and earlier?

Don't think it matters for some of these cars, but doesn't that also put a limit on which days you can drive the car. I am pretty sure in TN, the car can only be driven on Fri, Sat, and Sun if registered with a classic tag. Also, I think you can only put so many miles on it. Something like less than 7500 or so.

Here in texas classic plates have no restrictions. Only antique plates.

Over here in QUebec, Canada, we have classic plates, but after that you can't go on the highway anymore...

In florida the car needs to be 30 years old FTL! :(

In Washington state its 25 years or older and I think there is a restriction on mileage but it sounds loosely regulated.

I can only speak for Ohio because that's the only one that I'm really sure of. To register for a historical plate:

1) Vehicle needs to be 25 yrs of age
2) Be driven less than 500 miles a year
3) Only driven to and from car meets

Several people over here don't abide by these rules and don't get caught so I doubt that I'll have any real trouble. I think you could just lie to them about how many miles have been put on the car or just say your on your way back from a car meet. Regardless I don't believe the police are going to give you any trouble for having them.

For other states I'm sure you could just Google the requirements fairly easily and just try to find out how big of jerks the cops are around you.

You need insurance. My Insurance company i know (just went over this 3 weeks ago) wants to know the milage at the time of setuping up the covrage, then they want milage at time of accident. THeres ways around it. Theres ways around everything

it offers basically nothing here in NY except the inconvenience of having to register your car every year instead of every 2 years. Locally it also requires specialty insurance

Not in Colorado. Only model years '75 and older are allowed collector plates. :(

Here once you register classic. It is safety only, no smog testing.

You have to have a front license plate here in Minnesota. I believe once you're car is registered as a collector or whatever that you don't need one. This interests me although I am sure they will still pull you over for it. I will have to look into it more.

When I lived in Illinois, you were required to have the front plate. I said, "Fuck 'em... I'm not drilling holes in my $650 bumper." - I put the plate in my windshield, and it's been there ever since I moved to Washington in August of last year. Haven't had a problem. I have regular plates. Some states have ridiculous laws with classic and/or antique plates... As stated in above posts.

For those of you that have the chance to get them... Take it. As long as it gives you some sort of advantage. Otherwise, tell "Johnny Law" to "Lick 'em!"

well now im thinking of doing the classic plate, only 15 bucks (no choice of letters/numbers) or 40 bucks you choose spelling in texas! just gotta figure out a good one tho ... some one already has "Panda7" bastards lol

I have gotten a ticket for no front plate even when it was in my front window. Lame. My front bumper has a couple screw holes in it that I am not happy about. It would be nice if my car could be considered a collector.
