hey dude i just wanna make sure that you dont have a a strut bar or alternator in the way when you finally finish your hood. Does the hood clear these things when shut? I wouldnt be too much fun if the first time you shut your hood you destroyed it.
|
I am guessing it is for air that flows through the front bumper into the radiator to flow out the top of the hood through those vents?
|
no i checked and it clears no prob. only thing i dont know for sure is if it will clear a strutbar. the slots are not very deep they are close to the hight of the bracing underneath.
the plan is to fiber glass this to my aluminum n/a hood put it on my built up s4 and run my t2 hood on the n/a. |
lol yea it looks kinda like its backwards lol????

another thing i forgot to mention was that for a little more clearence im going to run 1/2" spacers on the hood hinges |

^ I am guessing he is talking about how most hoods like a TII hood, mustang hoods, subbie hoods, etc... have the vent going the other way for the ram air. So naturally it looks backwards.
|
yea i guess it just seems backwards because im used to the tII hood but its coming out good! alot better than what i would of done!! lol
|
ok yeh i see what u mean. this is eventually for a v mount set up. but if it works this way i might just stay front mount
|
Oh hell yeah. That's tits. I was planning on doing the same thing after i finish my aero and body work on the rest of the car! For some reason fate wont let me take the easy way out with a uras vent (i can't seem to buy/find one to save myself) so i taped the hood off and notched it out where i wanted to vent......no cutting just yet.
LOOKS SICK. What products are you using glass-wise and did you use mdf for the outer frame? GOOD JOB! |
And question, are our hood skeletons "glued" on or spot welded?

Bondo Fiberglass Mat also known as Chopped Strand Mat or CSM fiberglass repair kits for boats and what not.actually used cardboard too some time but it works.
the frame has these blobs of glue between it and the metal. Thanks! I've been wanting to do it for a few months, just never saw any good execution.......... So the frame is just straight mat and cardboard? Not bad. The resin/glass will protect it and keep it rigid and it is mad easy to cut! |
just a question what about when your car is out side and its raining?
|
the intercooler will get wet i guess, lol. i only take the car out on weekends any how so doesn't concern me too much. most of the time it sits inside.
the way it sits now the only thing getting wet would be the rad fan. once this is nice and solid i will raise it a little bit to add more clearence. i was also thinking of putting a small mesh to keep leave and what not from entering. |
Yeah, mesh would be good parking somewhere outdoors in the fall.
With a non vented hood, i have a good bit of leaves, seeds a and small fruits in my bay i need to get around to cleaning out. With huge slots and no mesh you'd be on your way to starting a compost heap or underhood fire. |
