I cut a roof off a tII. I'm using it for the skin...Does that make me sound like a serial kiler?

thanks. are you saying rock the blue 87? or the white 88? haha the 87 doesnt have a motor in it, but still has the tranny, drive shaft, rear end, all the brakes, a steering wheel, and an engine harness.. pick up a cheap motor and throw it in it. weld a roll cage. I have a breezy track car...haha wish I had the money for such a project

Correct me if I'm wrong, he has an AE that needed a roof and either had or purchased a TII with no engine to use as a donner car for the AE correct? If that's is in face the case why use a rare TII when a plentiful base model could have been used.

I commend him for fixing and restoring the AE as a matter of fact I wish more people did just that. These cars ( speaking about original TII ) are getting harder and harder to find. At some point in our lives they will be collectable rare sports cars. It will be like finding an original 70 chevelle SS and actually worth money, good money. Right now sure they are a nice affordable sports car but the numbers are drastically lower than you think. Just to give you an idea, there is a thread on the forum that gives a breakdown of all the remaining rx7s registered in the US as of 07 and the low low low numbers of TIIs are insane. True import- in 2 lifetimes a Fc will never have value. It will always be a quirky sports car appealing to a small audience. I doubt that tii shell would have made it any further than the crusher had he not borrowed the roof

 

If I'm understanding right, he saved the t2 from the junkyard. So if that's actually the case, he took what he could from it rather than have a complete T2 go to scrap.

And are you telling me that a 10'th anniversary FC, even the base model it is, is more plentiful than a t2? Almost every rx7 I've ever seen has been a t2. I've NEVER seen a 10'th AE outside of the internet, and even there it's a very rare occurrence. I'd rather see one in person than yet another T2, however "little" their numbers may be. Imo obv.

All trueimport is saying is that the dude should've cut up an n/a chassis, rather than a t2. Only because n/a chassis are far more common than t2s. This is true.

Anywho, you've been slacking Justin. There's a sweet 10thAE here in town! It actually could use some love lol. I've been seeing it over the past three years. Just saw it a few days ago actually. I've never met the owner but I wish I could.

 

I personally feel other wise. Also I think you may be mistaken when it comes to a small niche group, just look at this forum alone it has over 168 thousand members / fans. That's by no means a small niche. Yes it's smaller than some other automobiles but still large enough to raise value. Hell in the past 10 years alone prices for a clean fc have almost tripled. Trends don't lie. Never the less I get your point and he did a good thing for sure by saving the AE.

No I'm not saying that at all and I don't know if you ment to say it the way you did or if I'm reading that correctly but an AE is by no way shape or form a base model. I've personally owned one and have seen 4 others in person. No offence but unless you ran the vins on your so filled TIIs I would wager to say no all of them were in face real TIIs given the remaining over all numbers. There are sooo many quality TII conversions out there that unless bins are checked you wouldn't even tell the difference.

Okay. Lets clear some of these questions up.

I bought the AE from a neighbor down the road. It already had the crushed roof, I saved it from a far worse fate. The guy wanted to just hack the roof off bondo what he could, and make it a "vert". It was a dude in his late 40's he had owned 5 of them and he was sad to see it go but he knew what I wanted was what he was trying to keep. I purchased the blue 87 TII from a buddy of mine. It was sitting in a storage unit across the state, Me and my friend Tom also a member on this site, Drove over and picked it up for 700 I got a s5 front bumper, s5 rear bumper (both in bad shape) a full racing beat exhaust, (Turbo back) and a roof to save the AE. The reason I am saving the AE is it has less then 39k on the odometer, Absolutely no rust other then the small rust on the roof from it sitting in my garage without a car cover on it. to me it was worth it. and the blue 87 had to die. im sorry. but with a rust hole almost the size of my fist was on the frame rails in the engine bay, it wasnt worth swapping all of the near perfect suspension parts, engine, and immaculate interior.

no way they have tripled. This would mean TIIs selling for$15-$18k because I remember when a TII in good shape would be lucky to get $5k-$6k. Verts would be selling for $10-$12k, 10ths selling for $20k.
