Pic request: Vert with wing/spoiler.

Im thinking of adding a wing to the back of my black 88 convertible. now dont get me wrong, i think the FC is a beautiful car, gorgeous. But i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of nice wings that would look good. and preferably arent gonna be a pain to install :P

Here's 2 pics attached, the S5 OEM spoiler with about 6 inches of the center sectioned out and the S4 sport package spoiler.

Does the sport wing need any mods to fit? I'm hoping that it just takes grinding off the outer bolts and it works fine from there.Sorry for the thread jacking.

LOL thats cause it is primer... The car is still in the body shop getting finished up and molds made for the widebody kit GB.

I believe dave said it will be repainted white when the body work is finished.

gerbraldy 04-05-06 12:19 PM

that s4 sport spoiler looks awesome from the back. I have it on my black vert and I wouldn't change it for any other one, plus it only cost $12 shipped.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ok I had no idea. I've only seen those pictures for like the past year so I just ASSumed it was done and thats how he was keeping it. Well thats coo i'm glad he's painting it white :D

RX-Heven 04-05-06 01:30 PM

The car was only painted like that to get it down to Sevenstock and not have each panel a different color.

It will be white again...just as soon as the bodyshop quits giving me the runaround.

btw, I think this modified wing looks great:

Just need to cut some holes on the inner trunk panel to bolt on, beside that no. What I did was use a hole saw then trim the hole with some door edge moulding.

The main issue with putting a wing on a Vert

is the stock struts won't hold the trunk lid up. And, NO ONE makes an after market replacement strut set up for the Vert.

I have a wing on both my '91 (aftermarket type) and '88 vert (the chin spoiler off a '87 sport model). So what I did was have a kit fabricated at a local machine shop that would allow me to mount aftermarket struts. Now, even with the wing, when I pull the lever next to the drivers seat to unlatch the trunk, the trunk lid actually goes up by itself despite the extra weight.

All total the kit (you only need to replace one strut) costs about $20 not including the strut that works with it. You can get the strut at any Pep Boys or the like.

If anyone wants one, PM me and I can hook you up.

Alternative spoilers for FC Verts?

In my looking around, I've so far completely failed in finding the 'sport wing' that is (AFAIK) the only OEM wing that will work on the verts. So I've been looking around at other wings to see what might be a good substitute, and am curious what others have done in the way of rear spoilers for their verts. I'm not looking for something huge and ricey- I like the look of the OEM spoiler and want something subtle that goes well with the body, not something that screams, "I'm just waiting for clearance from the tower for liftoff!"

MRRX7FC3S 12-07-06 09:37 PM

I used the RE amemiya knock off from Corksport. I thought it looked good. Although, you won't be able to open the trunk with this installed.

Ashyukun 12-07-06 09:43 PM

Yeah- I do want to retain the ability to use the trunk. Actually so far the one that I like the best is the stock spoiler on the newer Mustangs, and it looks like it would be about the right size as well.

SayNoToPistons 12-07-06 10:42 PM

IIRC.. the 3000gt spoiler fits too.

Yeah, I saw a post that mentioned that in my searches. Unfortunately, they're a bit less common on eBay. :P

Nice- that looks about the way I figured it would. The only downside I can see to it is I'd imagine you pretty much have to have a power antenna (or one you could swivel down and out of the way) since the spoiler would likely hit a solid mast-type one.

Funkspectrum 12-09-06 04:25 PM

Fiero GT wing looks good too..

wanganish wing

this is probably the closest to a wangan wing you are going to get on your vert (i think it's a black widow wing of a 96-00 civic coupe)
