Painting My Car (With a Roller)

So i'm doing the cheapo paint job on my cheapo TII.

I'm gonna use the rolling technique to paint it so just want some opinions as I hear the "gloss" never turns out glossy enough.

Just some info I have some flat black painted Mustang GT wheels.

i say like a flat red, or something else sick. i love the blaze red, and the black, but do something original.
im thinking flat orange for my datsun. why not something new?

flat black... as with cheapo jobs that usualyl the color to go with

Ishibubu 06-03-08 02:34 PM

Alright it's a tie. Would the red (blaze or gloss) be shiney enough?

Need more votes

you fail for not being able to decide your own car color.

sad face for you.

There's only one color that an RX-7 should be painted 'FLAT BLACK' to resemble a stealth fighter jet...:icon_tup:

I broke the tie!! but do a flat green....

eriksseven 06-03-08 10:12 PM

Damn... Don't paint your car with a roller. Just buy a cheap gun, rent a compressor and buy some cheap S/S paint.

Ishibubu 06-03-08 10:43 PM

I was thinkin about Flat green.

I don't have a paint booth. Really no place to spray my car hence the roller.

WingsofWar 06-03-08 11:37 PM

get some rattle cans and spray in the drive way.

Ishibubu 06-03-08 11:54 PM

I think rolling it looks better, and I won't waste as much paint

Josh13B 06-04-08 06:45 AM

I'd be interested to see how the paint actually turns out with a roller. Its the first i've heard of using a roller to paint a car.

I was just gonna get like 30 spray cans of cheap paint and a few good cans of primer and lots of sand paper. a couple of weekends and it'll look good as. provided the weather is nice

Gloss colors won't work very well. White is easy to get away with, but dark colors show flaws.

Hey hey, I'm in GA too... and I'd go glossy white

Sideways7 06-04-08 10:27 PM

There was a guy in Killeen that painted his riced out civic day-glow orange, but he probably did it with rattle cans, not a roller.

I have seen some flat roller jobs that look decent, but a gloss color will always show flaws and look like ass.

toastiepenguin 06-07-08 09:19 PM

wow ive never heard of the roller technique! and im half mexican haha

i say flat back

nivekdodge 06-07-08 09:32 PM

Hot rod magazine did a car about two years ago with a roller then sanded and rubbed it out, More labor intensive but if you have the time you can make it look half decent. Flat black only looks good till the first time it gets dirty. Red

First I've ever heard of the roller tech. You have to post a pic when you're done with it. I want to see how that turns out man.

nr2180 06-08-08 08:07 PM

looks like flat black is the voters choice. I think with a little sanding with a 2000 grit and a light buff it will look pretty good.

nr2180 06-08-08 08:16 PM

I did this with a roller for the yellow and a brush for the art work.

this is with roll on paint (NOT MY CAR)
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...n/DSC00164.jpg

so dont tell me that roll on doesnt work. look at it. also, there is a orange charger that is rolled on too. its fucking hot!
only thing with paint is the same, lots of work, but the work and the prep will determine everything.
and dont do flat black spray bomb, it looks like ass and you really dont want to do the prep and paint twice, trust me

Lloyd

edit, found the charger
